Had to break out my favorite homelite for this log to cut in half to get on the mill Super 1050 36"bar FOUR THINGS MADE THIS COUNTRY GOD, GUNS, GUTS.AND HOMELITES
Was having a friend come over today to try my hand at quarter sawing some white oak logs. Nothing big or exciting, just some practice logs. But some mice had other plans. See ( no milling today)
Pesky little critters cause a lot of damage Im getting some nice 12' boards my pictures dont do them justice break is over back to sawing
I finished quarter sawing the log on sunday log scaled 370 bd ft actual yeild was 440 bdft about half quarter sawn and half rift and flat some pictures now I just need somewone to buy it
Spectacular stuff there! Really wide for qs. I just sold 300+ bf of qs white and red oak to a flooring guy. I'm getting these white oak logs milled shortly, qs for the best logs, flat sawn for the rest.
Where are you in Chester County. I'm in Palmyra, 17078. I've been looking for a new sawyer since my old one retired. Do you do on site milling?
19343 northern chester county I will take mill out sometimes time is my big issue it is always on a sunday JB
Thanks for the info. Maybe next time I have a bigger whack to saw it will be worth your time to drag the mill out here.
Yes, I've been auditioning a few over the last couple years. I have 1-2 really good sawyers within 45 minutes, but they prefer to mill at their places rather than come to my place. Works fine for small loads like the current one, but on occasion I can build up a 1-2,000 bf. I can't really transport that much. I only have a 1/2 RAM and 10K trailer.
I understand the reason why they want to saw at there place most people who want sawing done have no idea what it takes for log handling ,area to set up mill,or just getting in to their place with the mill I have a crew cab dually plus the mill and am almost 60 ft long then they think you can just move around to the logs which are all over the place the best is they have no idea of the mess it makes I really select when I take my mill out anymore usually go to job first to look it has made it a lot easier JB
Sawed some Red Oak Quarter sawn @ 5/4" thick for a friend. Doyle scaled 242, I measured about 275-280+-. Not a high grade log but nice looking rays.
They came out pretty good what is he using it for? I just loaded a load of oak and live edge ash to deliver this morning not a big load 140 bd ft combined but the small jobs are the money makers the nice thing about small mills is we can get lumber out of logs that would have been turned away at big mills I just started stickering everything its supposed to warm up this week I usually do not sticker in the winter unless it is going in the overrun shed to store do you?? glad you got over the critter damage JB
