So in the PNW we can generally only buy logs by the log truck load (semi tractor with self loader and 34' logs) or the dump truck (14' long, 8' wide, about 6 tall). I burn about 5 cords per year and needed 5 cords for 2020/2021 so I ordered a dump truck load of logs from the local tree service. Scrounging is fun but even if the wood is free you need to go cut and haul it one pickup load at a time. So this is what 400$ gets you in the PNW. Just under 5 cords of 16-30" diameter fir with a little maple in there too.

I immediately grabbed the 28" bar, peavey, and the mingo marker and bucked up about a third of it. Unlike previous years I do not want to cut it all, split it all, and then stack it all. I want to divide it into thirds.

The woodshed has two 10x10 bays that are 6' tall in back and about 9' tall in front so 5.5 cords each side. I first cleaned out the leftovers from last year to fill with green wood and then will fill the bay with this old wood to be sure to use it up first.

It took about 3/4 gallon of premix and only that one skip chain to buck up the whole load. A couple gallons of splitter gas too. Three days of work for 9 months of heat!

That's what 11 cords of CSS wood looks like. I am so happy to not be futzing with tarps and posts anymore.

Oh yeah, in case you're wondering, those are foam pallets. Like styrofoam. They are awesome. No rot, can't step through them and twist the ankle. Light as a feather. Can cut with a sheetrock saw to fit around posts. I've been using these ones for at least 5 years and no UV damage.

$400.00 is a good deal for that load, and processing what you need in 3 days is great. Nice pics.

Looks great. I like the black on your wood shed too, really looks different in a good way.

That’ll keep you warm. Some good looking fir. I like working with fir, but I usually end up with more Alder than anything else.

    Very efficient!
What's up with the unpainted center section of roof (underside) on your shed in the 3rd pic there? Some new wood?
Where do you get those foam pallets? What industry uses those? I've never seen or heard of them...

That is one of the nicest, well organized, cleanest, well stacked wood sheds I have ever seen... :)

The black paint works for me also..

agreed, beautiful wood shed. I'm going to add a diagonal cross brace to the sides of mine next time I get one emptied. Haven't had any bowing or similar problems yet, but better safe than sorry!
