Looks like I will be running the genset tomorrow. Got a call from the co-op letting me know they have a planned outage scheduled for tomorrow between 9AM and noon. They have some maintance work to do. Nice to be able to run the unit on a nice day without having to worry about nasty weather.
Nice practice run. You should have someone spray you with a hose so you don’t get spoiled with nice weather.
All went as planned today. I had the genset outside and fueled before my errands I had to run. Got it started when I got home and it ran fine for 3 hours when commercial power was restored. Don't think it took more than a gallon of gas.
That's nice when it works out as planned. I'm really glad we put in an automatic system this year. The real reason we did so is because if I were not here my wife would not be able to get the generator our of the barn and everything hooked up, leave alone starting the generator and filling it with gas. Now we're covered even if we're not home.
With friends like you and OhioStihl, who needs enemies. At least it has been warm enough to make me reconsider
We have been experiencing a lot of power outages a lot this summer, but we are not sure why. After the Gale last October that blew in with 92 mph winds, they went around and cut back the trees and bushes. That should have drastically cut down on power outages, but they are also doing a lot of work on major transmission lines, so maybe they are accidentally knocking them off line. Either way, no notification; just no power. We have not fired up the generator though. They post that power will be on in 3 hours or so, and its not worth it to get things running for that length of time in the middle of the day, in summer for me.
I was going to use my new PTO Genset to power Rock the Flock (a benefit concert we have up in our fields), but the guy running the stage and sound system said he needed (5) dedicated 20 amp circuits. My generator is only 83 amp, 20 KW; so conceivably, when if Exit 244 went into a hard song with a deep guitar lick, it could kick out the digital amplifiers which would NOT be good with 1,000-3,000 people watching, so we rented a 45 KW generator instead. As someone on here told me once, it is NOT the KW's that limits a person, but the amps. 83 amps is not enough if the sound system maxes out!
We were told it was only going to be for 3 hours as well but we looked at it like a good excuse to exercise the genset. If it happened again I may not be inclined to run our generator.
