Just split stack of fresh white pine. Now my maul is completely covered in pitch.

What's your favorite way to remedy this?

solvents or just leave it be and dry out.
if it's on the handle you won't have to worry about losing your grip :picard:

I thought I read that wiping mayo or veg oil worked. Didn't thewoodlands run into this a while ago?

Gas or diesel fuel. Or kerosene.
Helps keep varmints from eating your handle.

I posted this in another thread too. I climbed a lot of fir trees as a kid. Somehow, my mom figured out that Pam cooking spray got the pitch off.
The fir in our front yard had blisters of pitch all over it and I'd end up covered in it.

WD-40 makes a far better cleaner than as a lubricant in my opinion. It will take off tar and other stuff out of clothes and on hands that most stuff will not.

    Even baby oil will work.
I leave it and let it dry, it will give it character and won't be sticky but wear clean at where you have your hands the most after a couple of splitting sessions.

I never thought of baby oil: now that would work!
