Had a trip planned to Caribou Maine, but the snow conditions turned for the worse 2 days before we were to leave. So a few calls around the upper mid west and we changed our plans and went to the U.P. of Michigan. First day there we found a vintage snowmobile show and the Snowmobile Museum Pasty pic Parked in front of the lake house A shredded belt Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior
A cool wood stove on display at a private art museum along the trail The Big Spring 10,000 gallons per minute bubbling up out of the ground. 45' deep This is looking down into the water from the above "raft" looks like a sand volcano where the water is coming up looking 45' deep into the perfectly clear water. Dinner with the group at the "cook your own steak" place, wife is behind the camera
Looking out over Marquette Lunch in Big Bay look up "Anatomy of a Murder" The Lumberjack Tavern Suicide Hill The raft at Big Spring is hand powered A big Thank You to Dennis (Backwoods Savage ) for pointing out some need-to-see places I'm guessing you'll have another list of attractions in the Mitten, Chesaning area for our April gtg Can't wait. Dennis!!!
Very nice pictures! Glad you're safe and had a good time. Now that wood stove is the actual smoke dragon, right??
Tim, we're really happy you all had a good time and found snow. Still, it is hard to believe how little snow there is compared to a normal winter in MI. Also looks so weird to see so little ice on the big lake. Miner's Castle is a beautiful place along Lake Superior. In the summer months, a boat ride from Munising out along the Pictured Rocks and Miner's Castle is super too! Did you make it to Grand Marias? Did you see any wolves? Moose? Good looking Yoopers? Yes, the Big Spring is simply amazing and one would be hard pressed to find any water that is more clear than that water. Did you drop any pennies and watch them go all the way to the bottom? I've often wondered how much money is down there. Did you get to ride any of the Haywire? Did you climb up Suicide Hill? How about the Ski Hall of Fame? Geeze, wish I could have been with you but not sure I could do it anymore.
Dinner with the group at the "cook your own steak" place, wife is behind the camera[/QUOTE] Where was the " cook your own steak" place? I remember years ago going to a place in Marquette that offered that but couldn't find it last time we were up there
Christmas. West of Munising. Foggy's Foggy's Steakhouse | Delicious All-American Cuisine in Christmas, MI!
Man that looks like a great trip! I may have to tag along next year!!! I'm absolutely heartbroken that we didn't get much snow at all this entire winter. Didn't get much sled time at all.....
You think that Chaparral would last 1000 miles? Lets go... Dont worry we broke lots of sleds on this trip I was thinking about you at that vintage sled show and museum. Got a ton of picks for you to see.
made it to Grand Marias, but didn't see any wild life, except them crazy little red squirrels. never even thought of that. bet there is a ton of coins there we rode about every trail within a 150 miles of Munising Passed the ski jump hill and stopped long enough to get a pic, but that was a 255 mile day, so stops were few and far between on that day
Was the museum called "Top Of The Lake Museum? A buddy of mine owns it (Ron Knapp). The Chappy that I'm building will last long trips. Should have it done by next winter....
thats the one, great place to see and we happened to hit it on the day they were having a vintage sled show. Oh, and I found a chainsaw there too check this thing out, was hard to get a good pic with it sitting between the sleds
