Thinking about building some sides for my 06 F250 long box just curious what everyone else has done. Here's a picture of the rig right now, excuse the shotgun haha
Yes should be interesting. Have a Ram 2500 short bed. Very rare that the truck gets wood hauling duty so I haven't made any sides yet. I always figured if need be I have sheets of 3/4 and 5/8's plywood in the barn. Simply cut them to fit over the wheel well projections and should be good to go. Thinking the weight of the wood on the bottom will hold them in good enough. Not fancy but should work.
That's kind of what I'm looking to do simple and easy to remove I've got a piece of 1/2" that goes on my back rack now to protect the window just need built sides and maybe just plywood for the back
Here is woodracks on my 77 chev. This design is common is my area. Some folks bolt them together some use woodscrews.
Sorry i didnt put these stake sides on the Ford F250, my truck box is still on and its getting dark. However i did manage to take pics of some key points. One pic shows the angle connectors. The bolt on each of the corners of the sides, and mate together. Another pic is of the levers for the back and the last pic shows how i cut the uprights to fit in the bed pockets.
1x1 square steel tube with some ripped 2x4's I wanted the space at the bed level big enough to fit my arm through for my bedroller and get stuff front to-back without having to climb in.
I have a very simple but functional design. The front metal rack stays on most of the time and is bolted down. The rear metal rack is easily removable by lifting the rack out of the short stubs. The horizontal wood 2x6's simply get screwed on through holes in the vertical part of the metal rack. About the only time I have the 2x6s on is when I go get wood. It carries a full cord+ in one load.
That's the ticket right there I might go a bit higher and keep the boards tight together is all.... I will have to go out and sniff around the barn and the shop and see what I can find for lumber and hardware tommorow then and room for :stacke::stacke::stacke:
When I load firewood I stack the wood up to about the top of the bed. Then I place pieces of Oriented Strand Board(OSB) up against the sides to extend to height of cab. Firewood holds them in place. But when not using it for firewood, which is about 98% of the time, I wanted the two rail, lower height look.
Keep in mind if you have space between you can see through that space when moving around. And can strap things to the sides by passing rope/straps through space.
Ok so here it is whipped this up in about a half hour this morning around 530 am just in time to go put them to use. I have plywood that ubolts to my back rack then used 2x6 I had to fit in the stack pockets then used 5/4 deck boards for the sides and a couple that drop in for the back and put eye bolts in for the two ratchet straps that hold everything together
