One of the guys here at work just offered me a free saw. He dropped a tree on it a few years ago and never did anything with it. He's tired of looking at it so I'm going to pick it up on the way home (sorry no pics yet). The engine is still good but it will need a good bit of plastic to make it usable again. He has an extra bar and a few chains for it as well.

Perfect timing since the shop at home is empty right now and I don't sit still very well.

Free is my kinda price. Hoping it's worth fixing but if not maybe I'll just part it out.

Anyone know where I can find a parts manual to download?

I'm not even going to wait for pics.

    You suck.

Gotta warn ya, the last freebie crushed saw I worked on turned into an adventure, very profitable for eBay for sure. And somehow I came out of it with TWO azz kickin' saws that had different pedigrees but were equally mean! Good luck friend!

    Now, about those pics....

Bret, I've got a decent 026 starter/cover assembly if you need it. Good luck on it!

Thanks everyone. This free deal just got a little better. Turns out he also had an MS250 he didn't want anymore as well so I ended up with 2 saws. :D The 250, I'm told, ran but not well and would die if you let off the throttle and needs a gas cap. Pulled the muffler and no scoring on the piston, rings are free, and no carbon in the muffler. Has good spark so I'm off to the Stihl dealer to get a gas cap and maybe a carb kit since they aren't too expensive and if I need it this weekend they won't be open again until Monday.

The 260 looks like it was hit by a train so that one might sit until my usual winter work starts coming into the shop and I have the extra money.

I don't have a picture resizer program on my home shop computer so I'm going to try to upload from my phone.

Wow it keeps getting better! You may want to stop and grab a lottery ticket on the way to the saw shop! ;)
Congrats on the score. You know the more I hang out in this room the more addicting this is becoming. May have to start watching for a junk saw to start playing with and get my hands wet.

Try hultz on ebay for the plastic. That's what I used on this crushed 650 I just built. The plastic and tank handles are cheap but from what I have found a ggood replacement. They have buy it now prices and auctions. If u best offer or win an auction u will save $10 over the buy now price.
All plastic and handle was $69 shipped.
    Here is the 650 done.

I'll check out ebay for parts for the 260. Thanks for the tip on Hultz.

$19 later and the 250 is a runner now. Gas cap, fuel line, and a quick carb tune and she runs and idles fine. It does oil a bit much and not sure yet if the oiler is adjustable so I still need to look into that. Bar is fair to poor and chain is almost shot so they are on the shopping list.

I really like the non safety chains on the 250... Once you mod the muffler. Otherwise it bogs down way too much.
