I did the original fireplace years ago with the help of our neighbor's Kubota but since we had some extra rocks and a ton of pine that needs reduction, I made it wider. The original fireplace was just under six feet wide with the new width at ten feet. I have some cleanup left but with our area not receiving much rain this spring, things a scary dry. I'll start getting some of the pine logs from the garage clearing c/s and find a area for piling the splits. In picture 0436 I'm just starting the backwall, 0437 is it done except for some cleanup and new sand and 5858 is the original fireplace which was done on 8/18/2012.
We did get some rain but nothing like they had predicted so I couldn't really kick the bigger fireplace into high gear, I did get rid of a bunch of pine today before I shut it down.
Since we had some good rains overnight, I decided it was time I get going on my cleanup of Ash tops. I thought that I had an older before picture of all the Ash tops but I didn't, in picture 0458 the tops started off to the right and ran the length to the other tops pictured.
That's one large firepit! It'll be good for not having to cut down the branches to length before you throw them onto the fire though.
That's for sure, almost two years of Ash tops were flamed up the other day. I'll get more Pine ready for reduction for our next stretch of wet weather. How's camp going?
It has been very nice as it is still quiet down at the lake. The hot weather we had just a day or two before Memorial Day brought out high and loud traffic on the lake but that's over with now. Been busy with improvements also. I hope to be able to find another residence with privacy this year.... fingers crossed!
Nice pics... nuthin quite as satisfying as getting work done while sittin by the fire that's doin' the work...
I wish we had an open area that I could burn like that but we don't. I wish people burned it around here but most look at you like you're crazy when you tell them we burn it in a wood stove in our house.
How are things your way Jack Straw ? Stinny , it sure is nice sitting around it while the fire is going, hopefully this winter we'll have more. Backwoods Savage , maybe for an orange tractor!
I grabbed the old 390 with a 20 inch bar and bucked up more rounds for the fireplace. I'll get some of the smaller stuff bucked up (0469) that's in behind the main trunk. We should have enough rain today and tomorrow that I can burn a bunch of pine tomorrow.
Pretty dry here, we got 1/2” of rain the other day but that wasn’t nearly enough. I hope we get more for the farmers, they don’t need anymore problems.
I gave you a night hoping you would remember the fireplace build. We had a local company deliver a load of rocks for 80 bucks and I used our neighbor's Kubota to move them, I'll look for a picture but I think that was 2010 or 12. I just found the pictures from 8/16/2012 @5:03 pm. The rocks that I made it bigger with came from up the road from a neighbor's house, I did her a favor since she wanted them out from in back of her house, they were a bitch getting on the utility trailer (didn't have a tractor, just a strong back) but what I used them for on our house lot never really was a good idea so we made the fireplace bigger with them.
