On my way home from work today daydreaming about my upcoming Dall sheep hunt . I noticed fall is coming quickly.
It's getting to be that time of the year Tom. We'll be seeing it in MI very soon now. If I were still in the UP, no doubt I could find signs of it now. Might be up there soon just for a short vacation. I've really been getting the itch to get up there.
This morning was 45* when I left for work at 0545 and you could see your breath. Fall is coming quickly.
Been looking for signs here too, but none yet. Usually I'll start to see a little red on the small Maple trees in the swamps about now, but they had a slow start this Spring. Wheat harvest is just beginning, that's the very first sign of Summer winding down. It's been tough so far, either, cold & rain or hot & humid. Hoping for a cool dry spell for a while.
I suspected the wheat would start this week but none around here yet and we went to Saginaw this morning. Nothing.
The first signs of the transition from summer to fall I notice here comes around the second weekend in August. This is when the ground is starting to get dry which causes some trees to start to turn yellow. About that time we are getting more frequent northwest winds ushering dryer cooler air masses more frequently. Now we are at the peak of summer here with heat, humidity, lots of bugs, long days, reliable fishing patterns, and lots of garden harvests.
I like the soft maples as they turn red. When we once lived near Gaylord, MI there were several areas I'd see weekly that had lots of reds. It almost always started the middle of July.
Right now the living is easy. I love all our four seasons, as each one has it's own interesting patterns and activities...but fall and winter are my favorites in no particular order. That being said we would not appreciate each season as much with the contrast formed by the others.
Tend to agree with you. I'm preferential to Spring/Fall myself. Spring is great after a long cold winter, and Fall is great after the high heat and humidity of the summer. I like cool temps 50-70° range, without bucket after bucket of rain.
Couldn’t agree more. I think most of us can agree each season (well maybe not fall) can bring its own misery but without the changes, I know I would be bored.
We, as a family moved to Hawaii for two and half years from MN. I was almost 13 when we moved back home, and all 7 of us were ready to do so. It was fun for a few years, but not quite the same when you are used to our four distinct seasons.
