Was at Aubuchon Hardware in Alton last weekend and saw that they had loads of pellets in. Half of them were Okie Softies so I checked pricing just for chits. Not really interested but wanted to see what the market was.

    $299/ton

So who is making these at this point?

I don't know but I bought a 20 bags of Platinums last winter to try, and was unimpressed. Not that they were bad, they just weren't overly good and extra ashy for the $7/bag. Reading back thru this thread, apparently even the P43 was struggling with them so I made the P61 eat them since the ash pan is bigger.

I've been burning a lot of Platinums in recent years and haven't had any ash issues with them. I replaced Lacretes with them because the heat and ash compare favorably and they seem to burn longer than the Lacrete.

Just for clarity... are you referring to Okie Plats, or Vanderhoof Plats?
We have a lot of people loving the Vanderhoof Plats...

Sub spoke highly of the Vanderhoofs last season, so I expect that's what he was talking about.

I had the okies last year. Heat was great but more ash than I liked.

Would have gotten lacrete again if they weren’t sold out in my area.

I as well burned at least 4 tons of Okies and ended up mixing them with other as they were so damm ashy, was not impressed with them at all and had wished I had not purchased so many of them.
Drove by the Aubuchon I bought them from last year and they are stocked with them again but I will not be stopping in to get any unless someone here tells me they are different then last year. I thought they were the same pellet as LG satisfaction ? at least last year that was the suspicion .

I wasted my money on a couple of ton of the Okanagen Douglas Fir last year. I had been burning Okie for years. Since the brand was bought after bankruptcy two years ago, quality and service has plummeted. You couldn't pay me to use that crap.

Curious Dan are the Vandies still long arse pellets ? Thinking when I get back might make a road trip to grab a pallet and Ill jump in one of the F250's to make the haul as it is a bit much for the 150 beyond anything short. Grab LaCrete's but its only 10 miles from the house.

I've been burning Vandy's the last few years and I've never noticed that they were overly long. They burn just fine in my stove.

They are longer than Lacrete, but that's one of the reasons I buy them. I think they burn longer than the small pieces of Lacrete.

Yep no doubt and the reason I will buy them as well. Couple years ago I grabbed some from Skeet as he was having a problem with the long pellets and I had the same problem but there were a lot of 1 1/2" pellets in the mix.

Yes they are.. TBH, I have not opened any this season, but historically they are longer
than LaCretes. LaCrete do seem to be shorter than many.
They were not always that way..
when we first got them, they were longer than present, IMO.

Sorry for the late reply Luney... have not checked in for a bit.
But your question was answered well!

I noticed the same thing a few years ago , not kidding but up to 2 1/2 inches . It's seems they're back in the normal range now.

They still are a long pellet maybe averaging 1' with some up to 1 1/2" or longer But burning just fine not to many crunching . Give off exceptional heat and do burn much longer than the Lacrete's or Woods & Sons which are a much shorter pellet .

Going to replace my auger motor as my problem is similar to what Badbob is experiencing with his sisters P68 exactly but not sure if the stove is not crunching because of it just not loading pellets like it use to , will find out after replacing. Going to start there as a lot of fluid / grease coming from the motor and heck figured can start there and move to the next item building a stock of backup parts .
