So I got some aftermarket felling dogs for my 573 from Westcoast. Got thr 4 point inner and outer. Got the inner installed. Put the outer on the saw and it interferes with the tensioner hole in the bar. What am I missing? 20210125_185401.jpg 20210125_185401.jpg

Not seeing the problem. Can you hit the tensioning pin with a grinder if it sticks through the bar too far? I would think it wouldn’t need much. Looks like the tension is adjusted next to the muffler as opposed to through the bar cover.. can you expand on what specifically is happening?

I love the Pro Safety dogs. I have a set of 5 points on my Stihl 362. I have Stihl brand large double dogs on my 462 and also the 261 and they are ok, but not as good in my opinion and don't bite the wood as well but good enough.

I think you have the wrong dogs for your saw. I say this because the top hooks, are too low (not high enough above the the top of the bar) to work right. Look how much higher my Pro Safety dogs are on my 362, below.

IMG_0297.jpg That inner dog lying on the bed in my lower picture, ended up being installed on my 261 CM and then I added the matching outer dog. My 462 got the same dogs add to it, but I had to file a little on the outer dog to make it fit the 462. Here's a picture of my 362 with the Stihl inner dog on it, before I changed to the Pro Safety's and it's a large dog, and is also higher then the ones on your saw. Just FYI.

You are putting the dogs on the outside of the clutch cover right, not behind it touching the bar?

That's what I was thinking too...but what about the roller...looks to be too short then?

I've never heard of a dog going behind a clutch over. That can not be right.

nope, against the bar. The clutch cover has captured nuts, so the dog can't go on the outside, so I assumed it was supposed to be against the bar. Didn't make a lot of sense to me to be against bar, but the captured nuts thru me off.

Let me look at it again, maybe I can fanagle the nuts off the clutch cover. It would make a lot more sense on the outside, since where I have it now it hits the chain roller at the bottom of the inner dog.

Ok, I see, it's a Husky. Maybe they are the right dogs, but it sure seems like a bad deal to not be able to access the chain tension-er screw. But then I don't know much about Husky's. I will shut up, and watch this thread progress. :)

Dog goes outside the clutch cover. But they won’t fit the captive nut cover. The kit from husky is/was only $30 for the full wrap, big dogs, and clutch cover. I’d send the pro safety’s back and get the husky version.

Ok, captured nuts come off. This is what it looks like. Inner dog has a spike below the bar, outer dog has a spike above the bar. Just need standard nuts for the cover screws and should be good to go.

I checked the paperwork that Westcoast sent and the dogs are for a 572. Man i have a lot to learn!!

Flip the outer over so it matches the inner and it’ll work

Flipped it around and the points line up. The way the outer is designed, it has a bend in it that makes it look like it should face the other way, because it sits flatter on the cover and exposes more threads for the nuts.

But having all the points line up makes more sense 20210125_205036.jpg 20210125_205011.jpg

That's one big negative to the aftermarket. Looks like that lip needs ground down to allow that metal to sit flat on the cover. Me no likey.
