I was outside blowing out my sprinkler lines out when a tree service pulls up to my neighbors house, foreman comes over to me and asks if I want some wood. (He saw my stacks) I said how much? He said they will only be taking one side of a twin stump down. We agreed on 100 bucks stacked in my front yard.
Ran into my neighbor and he said he was taking one side down this year and the other side of the tree down next year.
Turns out they took the whole deal down and I got it all. Great amount of Oak for 100 dollars.
And I still have to split and stack the rest of my black oak I had cut down in March. Gonna be a busy winter.

That’s a real nice pile of wood but it’s not stacked :)
Before they can stack it they have to split it :)

oh yeah your gonna be busy.

Nice score, but typically the tree service guys will offload it for free, plus a little something for the fridge for later. ;)
They don't typically want it, because a lot of the time they have to pay to dump it. Although once, I tried to get a black locust score that fell at a neighbors, and the tree service would not let it go. They said the boss wanted it for firewood.

Yep, you should have started at free and specified consistent cuts.

Nice... that red oak splits nice and easy by hand, except for the crotchety parts, but nothing a little noodling can’t handle.
Can you wait 3yr to use it?

Not trying to hi jack this thread, but it deals with scoring oak. Sooo... on Thursday a friend texted me and said he was going to help another friend and his wife cut wood on Sunday, would I like to join him? I replied “ I love cutting wood but should really be getting some for myself , are they having some trouble (health, money, etc) because if they are I will gladly be there!” It’ll be about a 100 miles one way. But it sounds like a good time. I haven’t cut in a wood “party” for years, but it was fun then & seemed a lot less tedious. So I called the friend we’re going to help & explained that I want to join them, but I need to be getting some wood for myself, would it be possible to get a pickup load for myself? He said that he went scouting a day or two ago and there should be plenty, and it’s all OAK!!! I told him I’ve never had a chance to get & burn any oak, he said “well come on up then!” Don’t know if it’ll be standing dead, or blown down. Knowing him, I’m pretty sure we won’t be cutting live trees. He is a cabinet maker by trade and has his own sawmill. I’m pretty excited......pictures to follow:dancer::rootintootin:

No problem waiting the 3 years or more on this load. I only burn in my fireplace on the weekends and my fire pit as much as I can. This will bring me up to at least 7 full cords or more.

Nice, although, it sounds like you could use a stove. :dex:This is my first year into a 3 yr plan using an insert that came with our house, and I think the gas furnace hasn’t kicked on yet although admittedly the season is just getting started.

Awesome wood but I agree on the free part. Most free companies spend lots
Of money to dump their wood. A case of beer or $20 usually suffices for me

BUT that’s still a great score

Gave it a crack yesterday had splitting with a maul for about an hour (I raise my glass to all the hand splitters out there)
And came home from work around noon today, got a phone call at 1am this morning about an emergency at one our buildings. Got there at 3am and got on the Long Island railroad heading home at 10:45 am.
Set up my Boss 7 ton electric splitter and had ad it for a solid 2.5 hours today. Weather was awesome.
Got a good amount split for 3.5 hours.
