We have this really nice tree in our yard in CT. This past spring, we had it limbed and I asked them to save the wood which they did.

Today at lunch, I decided to get after a few rounds with the Fiskars. Wow! This stuff was firm! I know it’s Oak, it not sure what type. Got a pretty good haul for just branches....

White oak. Great wood. It should have a whiskey aroma to it. Skier76 If possible peel the bark off if loose. The sapwood grows fungi and punks out IME.

Thanks guys! I’ll get a pic of the leaves.

    Brad,
I saw that! A few rounds have some punk around the outside.

I never worry about that little bit of punk you get with that oak. It will burn and it is not worth the time and effort to cut that off. Just burn it. Keep it top covered though.

I was at the compost center a couple years ago and saw a guy unloading logs with one like that. Cute little rig

Those leaves tell me it is white oak. Rounded lobes are a dead giveaway for white oak.
