    Means mucho ash!!!!

I'm into a portion of my 2 year CSS white oak where I have a lot of 2-3" round "branches" with the bark still on that I stacked into my splits. Tried knocking it off when bringing it up to my deck for close stove storage, but it's still tight. The same oak without bark is primo now, but the stuff with bark takes longer to catch and leaves a lot of ash when done. Normal or not???

Normal. I read somewhere that bark is actually good short term protection from fire for trees. Also holds dust, dirt that contributes to ash.

Yes, bark means ashes but with oak, that outside layer tends to start turning to punk quite rapidly somethings. It is okay though and it will burn.

Thanks BWS.......................I learned pretty quick here lately, not to make a stove load with all barky oak branches!!!! Makes for a slow heating load that takes some finesse to keep burning!!!

    I'm much smarter now!!!

Normal, oak bark is a big ash maker for sure.
