Hey everyone . I just stopped back on the site after quite some time away. Thought I'd share the buck I killed back in early nov. I usually take a few days off every november to hunt the rut and this year I decided to take a week. Well lucky for me the very first day by 7am i was able to take this great 8pt. That morning i blew a few deer out of the area on my walk in and could hear a buck chasing does in the dark and thought it might just be one of those mornings where they move before daylight. To my suprise this buck came in from outta nowhere lookin for love. He followed my scent drag to 10 yards where I drew on him in some brush. He stopped for a few seconds and decided to change direction so I had to let down, turn around and draw on him from the other side of the tree before he was out of sight. One "meh" and he stopped quartering away and I let the arrow fly. Tracked him about 80yds where he crossed the road and died in a creek. I had to winch him out with the ranger because there was no way I was dragging his butt outta there by myself. He dressed 160lbs and is my heaviest buck to date. Sure makes all the time in the woods worth it.
Hey Smokin, great to see you back on the forum. Often wonder where you are. Great buck. Congratulations.
I welcomed you in the other thread so I'll just ask..... why did you shoot that buck while it was taking a bath huh? Nice buck- what a rack!
Thanks XXL ! Haha you shoulda seen him after I pulled him out of that slop. I had to hose him down at the house before hanging him. Looked like he took a mud bath
Thanks everyone. Sure was a suprise seeing him come walking in. I had a few good bucks on camera but never saw this guy.
Didn't know they grew them like that in Jersey....Always remember seeing their beeding eyes on the side of the road when driving through the pine forest at night heading to LBI! Nice Buck by the way!
Thanks! There's some big deer hiding in these woods. Body wise he's a big deer for south jersey and rack wise he's pretty dang good but there's definitely some monster bucks that slip up from time to time. A few years ago i killed an 8 that dressed 150lbs about 5 miles from here so they're around. Most bucks around here that are 2.5-3.5yrs old average 125-150lb live weight
eatonpcat here's a buck my buddies after in the pines. This buck is probably pushin 200lbs dressed. He's a big boy
Got my buck back a few weeks ago. I used a new taxidermist and I'm very happy with his work. He ended up having to use a different cape because I had an issue with mine. When I hung the buck i had to toss a few bags of ice in the cavity to keep him cool and for some reason the water didn't drain out through the nose and mouth like usual. It just swelled up in the face and unfortunately stretched the hide a little too much.
