No fires allowed around here - we are at red status and have some wildfires going at this time. Hopefully we will get some rain in the next couple of days to tame them down. That being said, wildfires here aren't quite like those out west and may seem puny. But, they can also smoulder for weeks below the forest litter.

Its the exact opposite here until last Monday it rained almost everyday for a month. Even early the day of that fire there were two storm squalls that came through dumping a good bit of rain.

Same here. You couldn't start a forest fire here if you wanted to... and this is wildfire season here with all the leaves and dead grass from last fall on the ground.
We had 4-5" of rain last weekend.

They may seem puny compared to those out west however when there's a forest fire only seven miles from home, it's no joke.

(Fire started yesterday off 302 in Crawford's Notch.)

Ohio has, what seems to me, to be some strange open burning rules...no burning in March, April, May, between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm...I get that things are dryer in the daytime hours, but 6A to 6P seems odd to me...and the fact that March, April, and May tend to be very wet months...and any vegetation is green!
Now October and November makes a lil more sense, but what about the latter summer months, where things tend to be crispy dry?!

Even with the rain, it is considered 0-percent contained.

The #BemisFire's growth was minimized overnight due to isolated rains. Still, an upcoming drying trend may provide the potential for more active fire behavior and increasing acreage in the coming days. The fire is in Crawford Notch State Park, the White Mountain National Forest, and private lands within the Town of Hart's Location, New Hampshire.

The incident is under unified command managed by participating agencies, the White Mountain National Forest and the NH Division of Forest and Lands. Approximately 50 firefighters are supporting the effort, and public and firefighter safety remain the top priorities.

Additional fire reconnaissance updates the Bemis Fire size to 106 acres, comprised of three smaller fires that have not burned together (58, 15, and 32 acres, respectively). The fire is burning and smoldering in timber composed primarily of conifers and dry leaf litter. Saturday night's isolated showers provided a wetting rain on the ground, but the surface remains dry underneath.

Today, fire crews constructed fire lines and assessed overall growth and additional containment opportunities. At this time, the fire is 0% contained. It is burning in steep, rugged terrain and access is complicated by slippery conditions. The forecast for the area includes potential thunderstorms and lighting. "Saturday's fire behavior was very active. If not for last night's rain, we would be dealing with a very different fire today, but the weather also limits where we can safely put our firefighters," said Saco District Ranger Jim Innes of the White Mountain National Forest.

Members of the public are encouraged to be attentive and do their part to prevent human-caused wildfires and respect closure areas. Arethusa Falls Trail and Ripley Falls Trail, located in Crawford Notch State Park, are closed until further notice. A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in place to allow official aviation resources' safe operation. The use of drones by members of the public within a TFR is prohibited. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Yup, even out in the backwoods. I thought it was just during extra dry periods in the summer (as needed) but then the local FD started posting the bans on their sign out front all the time...when I first saw it, it was in the spring and pretty wet/green...I was thinking what the heck is that about...did some checking on it...well I'll be dipped...
