Picked up this 2004 Mt. Vernon onFB Marketplace on Sunday. Has a newer convec and comb blower. Came with a spare board and door glass. Owner bought a new Cab 50 to replace this with. Looks like it'll only need gaskets and igniter.

So far I pulled the firepot and I'm running through the electrolysis process. Pulled firebrick, sanded firebox down and applied rust remover. It needs a REALLY good cleaning. Like the rest, it was clogged up pretty good.

The problem though is I think I'll be keeping this and selling my 1200. I really like this stove....a lot :D

I'm off on Friday, hope my gaskets get here. I'm shooting to possibly install this this weekend.

Well, I didn't do a whole lot to this one since it looks like I'm going to wind up keeping it (for now). Cleaned it out real well, painted the firebox, added new gaskets, igniter, vac switch, comb blower and used rust remover in the exhaust path as well as the firebox. Combustion blower bearings were a bit loud so I needed to swap that out BUT Quad uses a (4) post motor mount on these Mt Vernon's so I needed to reconfigure a little with the standard (3) post mount blower. Needed to grind off the firepot bolt and use new inserts. I don't believe the last owner ever had the firepot off and judging by what was left of the gasket it wasn't. My hearth pad is warped and the stove didn't sit level without teetering so I have it up on some blocks for now but will need to get a permanent fix....which may be a new pad :-(

That's a great looking stove you got there Steve! Congrats - you really do nice work on the Quad stoves there.

Our hearth pad was not level either here (bowed), for many years the Vt. Castings woodstove had 6"x6" tiles underneath 2 of the legs to level it out / support it.. Well, it was 'close' anyway. Tough to level out a stove w/ fixed legs, been there.

    Thanks Rob!

My exact problem, between the Englander's and the 1200 it has a bow to it now....I'd ideally like to get a piece of granite or something cut to what I need but you know me, I need it for next to nothing   I'm cheeeeep!

Me too - car repair shiz has me cheeping like a tiny bird !

When I re-did the Hearth pad here, I was looking at 'load leveler' goo in the tile section, but the resident HD guy said to just lay down extra mastic -> build it up, and re-tile over everything, and he was right! Ended up being the least expensive route & came out good, was glad I took his advice.

    Thanks Pete!!!

I went to look at another Mt. Vernon yesterday, 2005, said it needed a control board which I have but we couldn't come to an agreement on price....you gotta know when to fold 'em, and I did. He has my card, told him to call if he changed his mind.
