So I decided to get one those saw mills. I believe it will take a 28" bar but I am using 24 on it now because that is all I need. I am not carpenter at all but I think I can make a simple table or bench or wood box for inside the house so I went for it. I had some beetle kill lodgepole pine so that is what I am starting with. For the most part it went very well for my first experience at this except for the huge log screw I hit. Wiped out the chain so bad I threw it away. I built the rail guide myself and put some leveling screws on it which I like because it helps to prevent the rail from flexing when screwing down. Some pics.
Can’t beat that! Free screws for when ya want to put it back together! The stuff I just bought from the home store only came with staples... Good luck trying to build anything with those! Nice lookin boards! I love that guide too. Looks much beefier than the granberg offering.
Yea that screw really messed up the chain. The saw I am using is a Poulan 505 which is 83cc and it has a Stihl MS 660 piston in it and the saw has been ported. Seemed to cut and work real well for this application. I took a round ground chisel chain and square ground it. That seemed to work ok too. I read on one of the forums somewhere that square ground chain worked well. By the last cut I did notice it was starting to slow down a little.
Bravo Mag Craft , I hear the blue in the wood from beetle juice is becoming very popular for home decor.
Yep they left Colorado because of the antigun sentiment there and here they are in Cheyenne. I am curious as to how the wood will look when stained. Maybe a natural stain to keep the blueish grey look.
Looking good, Mag Craft! I've been thinking about getting my mill out to play a little bit here soon.....
I have been reading the forums and watching the video's for years and decided it was time to go for it. Come summer time it will fun to use the wood for some simple projects.
Yep, it's neat to be able to turn your own logs into lumber, sometimes right where you fell the tree! After seeing other's with them, I had to have one myself.....
BTW Mag Craft I still have to get with you on my BP-1 parts......I'm just now getting back on that project....too many irons in the fire....
No I bought it on ebay 129.00 no shipping charge. It was called a Timber Tuff. I can see no difference between it and the Alaskan saw mill that were advertised and were more money.

Well I got around to making a simple table to sit out on the front porch for when I am having a good cigar and a beverage of choice. Like I said I am not a carpenter by any means but this will work and I do like all the natural edges to it. I did not take it down real smooth since it will sit outside year round. It is only stained right now and I have an exterior finish that I will put on it for protection. I will see how it goes since this is all new to me at this time.
