The firewood supply is a bit tighter than normal this year here in the northeast, and it has been making the news. My wife works for a logging company and confirms that the firewood dealers have been hounding them all summer for more loads. http://digital.vpr.net/post/vermont-firewood-dealers-cant-keep-demand http://www.sevendaysvt.com/vermont/why-its-hard-to-find-firewood-this-year/Content?oid=2452746 and Maine, http://www.13wham.com/news/features...uppliers-facing-firewood-shortage-16645.shtml New Hampshire. http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/news/1047527-469/firewood-is-in-short-supply-around-new.html and down south, http://www.recorder.com/news/13695834-95/firewood-in-short-supply
I believe it. The mulch/loam/wood/coal yard in town normally has an enormous mountain of firewood in their yard that shows up in late August and remains until after Thanksgiving. This year its already gone.
I read somewhere that paper mills (maybe in Maine) would shut off any logging companies who sold any of their wood to firewood ops, instead of selling just to the mills. Not sure if this was true, but it sure would make firewood hard to come by... real fast.
