    Hello,
we are looking to buy a new Chainsaw, our old Husky 340 is almost dead. This one was a little underpowered for us, but did get the job done. We are now in North Idaho and are are needing a new one for cutting firewood for ourself and of course helping neighbors and friends when needed.
Talked to our Local dealer and he pointed us towards the Stihl 362. With Black Friday around the door they are offering 15% off, so the deal seems to be there.
After talking about everything else in the world, he offered me a new Stihl 362 Carbureted, which they got a couple by accident. I have been trying to read as much as I could on the differences, airfilter seems to be one of the big changes, other then the Carbureted/M-tronic itself.
Which one would you choose and why?

    Thanks

    Mike

Hi CamperLifestyle & welcome to FHC, Glad to have you aboard! Some will disagree with me I'm sure, but I'm not fully sold on the M Tronic setup just yet. Call me old school cause I am, but a 362 carb saw is a very sturdy & well proven machine. If the dealer got it by accident you may get a good deal on a nearly bullet proof firewood saw. I'm gonna give those saws a few more years to prove themselves. Read @Ralphieboy thread in this forum on his 661. Thanks for joining us.

Welcome to the club, CamperLifestyle and thank you for joining up!
I think your gonna like it here!

I have a carburated 362 that I bought brand spanking used from a coworker earlier this year. So far, it has been very reliable and runs great.
I think you'll be pleased with it and it will serve you well.

I also have a 241 cm that has been trouble free for 2 years now. I keep it on my quad and it has already cut 11 or 12 cords. Always fires easy and runs trouble free.

Welcome CamperLifestyle nice to meet you. I'd go with the tried and true carbureted 362!

Thanks everyone, looks like 362 Carbureted will be added to our Tool belt on Friday.
For the deal, they are charging $760 with 25" Bar and Chain and then minus 15% = $650
No price difference between the the M-Tronic or Carbureted Version.

Yes, it isn't a cheap investment. But once the right investment, it should last the next 10-20 years the way we use it.

I'd get the mtron version. No problems with my 261c.

I would go with the m-tronic version over the carb version ... I’ve owned both and I prefer the mtronic as it eliminates the need to tune the saw depending on conditions ... The most important reason is that it will adjust if u have a slight air leak and save the saw ... on a standard carb model a similar air leak could possibly destroy the engine leading to costly repairs ... I have a 362cm and it is a joy to use ...

Did you have the Carbureted version as well?
I am really leaning towards the Carbureted one, just like to keep it more basic. Do like the m-Tronic for the ease of not having to mess with the Carbureted. Have heard the only thing that seems to go bad is the Fuel Valve ($46 after the 2 Year Warranty). This seems to be more with people running ? Fuel. Luckily my gas station has Ethanol Free Fuel.

Hey Mike, if your property or where you cut has major changes in elevation(which it may in north idaho?), you may want to get the mtronic version that way you dont have to adjust all the time. preference

Most of my saws were 10-20yrs old when purchased used. 046 & 064 have been gone through once. I'm a bit more than the "average" fire wooder, you'll get more years than that if you take good care of that saw.

More years is great, just going with the years I got out of my 340 Husky. Which was about 17 years, If the new one is the Last one. I am very OK with that as well.

Not much to add other than I love my 362cm. It’s been a beast of a saw and starts quick every time.

Howdy neighbor! I'd go for the m-tronic, just because.

I also have a 362 carberated. I bought it brand new 5 years ago and have put it through the paces. Absolutely no issues and I guatantee it will start on the 4th pull everytime. I run a 25 inch bar and it has plenty of power. Mine was 789.00 before tax and another 120.00 cor the 25 innh bar and chain. 950.00 is a lot to pay for a saw, but I will do it again whenever I have too.

Definitely get the carb. I have the mtronic 362 and though it hasn’t failed me yet, the carb seems like a better buy. Can’t adjust the computer with a screwdriver
