Yes, despite what the title to the original link above says, these aren’t axes to toss into the back of the pickup or into the tractor bucket. Lots of good, detailed descriptions of restorations on this site, which will eventually be my way to get a few nice ones. I was surprised at the info in the article on the number of Maine ax makers in the past. That lead me to some good YouTube videos of Maine ax making.
I went to high school in Oakland in the 70’s and I never knew that. Thanks for posting! Here I was thinking the woolen mill and toothpick mill were the major manufacturers there.
Thank you for posting the makers stamp for this. This one is on my list to hopefully find in the wild at some antique shop or flea market. The second picture looks like consistent vertical indentations under the stamp from a trip hammer.
