My exhaust trap door gasket has disintegrated in a few spots and it's leaking a bit. I can smell a hint of smoke in the house. I can't find a replacement.

    Anyone have any leads?

stove is a lennox pi40 insert.

It's the gasket that goes on this trap door:
Lennox Flue Cleanout Box Assembly, H6021

i really don't want to spend that much on a whole new thing -- not to mention the labor to install it.

Frankly, i'm close to just taping it off on the outside with some high temp ducting tape.

Can you post a picture of the gasket?

Depending on what the gasket looks like it should be an easy fix

If it is just the flat rope/braided gasket, that's an easy score at most stove shops or online

If the gasket is the flat sheet type high heat ceramic, it can be sourced online readily.

Get us a piccy of the gasket and we can gitterdone...

briansol, go to the link you posted of the trap, at the bottom of that page, look at the question and answer. Your gasket is there for $14.00.

That question on the page is actually from me...

it's not the right thing. This gasket is a hard rubber, not rope. My camera is just so bad for some reason, i can't get a good picture.
The top left corner is the remaining piece of the gasket. It's all broken off towards 20190209_140325 (1).jpg the front corner and down the right side.

I've been running without a stove for 2 weeks now.

Looks like Lennox wants you to buy a whole new cleanout box.Buy a sheet of liotherm, cut a big square, scrape off any old gasket, lay it on the door, snap shut.Or,a better solution, buy a sheet of hi temp silicone gasket material, cut a square, lay in there, snap shut.Measure the gap to get the right thickness.

Is 500 degreeshigh enough? The gaskets I saw at tractor supply (rope) were 2k degrees rated

Rope gaskets are generally higher temp cause they are right where the flame is.Some pellet stoves use this material as a combustion blower gasket, which would be even hotter than the area you need.It will, however, get hard, over time.Is probably what is on there.

Woops, you also could buy flat rope gasket, like for stove glass, but may not be as good a air tight seal, which is why is not usually used on the pressure side of the combustion blower.

Your picture or link did not post.Anyway, depending on what thickness you needed/ordered,if it is the rubber,I have cut it with EMT scissors, and with a razor blade utility knife.

well, that failed miserably. bad advice from that vendor.... it's not even close to the right size. It's short by an inch on both sides. It pours out more smoke with it in that just metal on metal.

    back to the drawing board.
