I have a husky 545 and i love it, but i need a bigger Saw. Most of the wood i cut is smaller stuff. Lately I've been getting large oaks and the 545 does a good job but i'd like something to run a big bar. Will the 545 handle a 24"? Or should i look for another Saw? Thanks

That's substantially longer than Husky recommends for that saw, which is to say not a great idea.

I'd get at least a 65cc saw to pull a 24". That should provide proper oil for a 24" bar and enough power to pull it.

That saw is pretty much maxed out with 18".For occasional use a 20" would work but I would seriously consider a 60cc or 70cc saw if you're getting the big stuff on a regular basis.

    24" is ported 90cc or 120cc territory:cool:

Husky 365 is the best bang for the buck out there. 71cc for 60cc price.

    Stihl 661, ( snicker snicker.....)

Seriously tho, Mike is spot on. The 365 is a deal, and the Jonsered 2166 can be had for dirt cheap if you look. Of course if you can swing the price bump, the 576 would do the job in style.

A 50 cc will not handle a 24" bar, but a 60cc will if it's only once in a while. 70cc would be a better choice for sure. I just happen to know a guy with a ported 2172. Check the classifieds.
Yep. Mastermind 2188, 8 pin, 24" bar...

A ported 2172 would definitely be a good saw for a 24" bar.

But in all seriousness, a Husq 460 Rancher or a Stihl 391 would pull a 24" for occasional use. Or if you prefer the pro build style like your 545, the 2166 or 365 is a great platform.
