So to not hijack buZZsaw BRAD's thread, or one of the others, I figured I'd start my own.

At a friend's place. Property is in need of cleanup.

First, get stuff off the shed roof- IMG_20200113_083409939.jpg IMG_20200113_083428779.jpg

I brought my electric pole saw. Right tool for the job.

Off to the right is where the expected bl is. There's bl in the area, but I was dealing with a downed tree, barkless.

    It's bl!
    IMG_20200113_090734524.jpg

Spent time cutting up dead and down, as well as trimming back a limb.

So, a mix of dead and green
    IMG_20200113_103318679_HDR.jpg IMG_20200113_103924659.jpg

Dead on right, green on left
    IMG_20200113_110315149.jpg

There was another downed tree that I did a few test cuts on. I'm pretty sure it's bl. There's that telltale yellow/green wood chips.
    IMG_20200113_103548181.jpg IMG_20200113_103510580.jpg

It may be a year or two beyond primetime, but I'll still get what I can of it. Probably tomorrow.

Thanks! The wood face is totally different, but, I suppose that could be due to time being dead and down.

Maybe, when I get more cut, it'll look more lIke mb. The tree I have, was a blow over, with root ball still connected.

    Went back this morning...

Still not sure what the mystery wood is -
    IMG_20200114_083902914[1].jpg IMG_20200114_084851904.jpg IMG_20200114_085003565.jpg

It might be BL.. maybe not. But I took about 10 rounds of it.

Then I spied a clump of BL, that was blown over.
    IMG_20200114_091153044.jpg

Some of it bark-falling-off dead, and some still green. Hell ya!

Still had to add the trunk pieces to the load.
    IMG_20200114_094020204.jpg

Trunk rounds, on top of load.
    IMG_20200114_100705874.jpg
    IMG_20200114_100717977.jpg

Unloaded with yesterday's wood. Trunk rounds lower right.
    IMG_20200114_103703851.jpg

Left lots of bark behind. It came off in long strips. Added to both sides. More on the right.

And, mystery rounds on a couple of BL rails.
    IMG_20200114_103716261.jpg

It's supposed to rain tonight. I hope to get out in the morning to start processing these. The green BL, will be put with some recently split red oak. They can wait the 3 yrs. The dead stuff, I'll stack separately. I'll probably bring a round inside for a couple of days, Split it and see what the MM indicates. Same with the mystery wood.

There's at least another two-tree group that's blown over in the same area. I'll get it eventually.

Well not mulberry Mike. That bark reminds me of poplar and that will throw a yellowish /green chip.

yeah.. now that you mention poplar.... The bark was slimy against the wood, and it all had a sour smell to it. Glad to have it for SS.

I put in a small piece of BL, about 2in in diameter. It burned fine. Fine is defined as nothing sizzling out the cut end. The piece sat next to the wood stove for about 18hr.

I then put a forked piece in that's about 3in diameter. It also is burning fine.

    Whoooooo!!!!!

Once I have just a bed of coals, I'll drop a split into them and see how it does. Triangular split, about 4in, per side.

True. Temps are dropping through the day.

I'll work it in with my other wood. It's nice to have options.

I got most of the dead-ish bl css.

    IMG_20200116_152056604.jpg

I hope to get to split the poplar tomorrow morning, unless I decide not go outside with windchills in the low single digits.

I also still have the green limbs to cut to size.

    Real windy/gusty outside, currently

I wouldn’t know a locust if it had a name tag. Your going to have to come up to our place to see if there’s any here and show me.
    Nice hoard!
