Well I finally got to play with the new toy a bit this morning. I got it earlier in the week, but schedule prohibits anything during the weekdays. Then Friday I got sick, so it sat for another day. So I got from arb site, from one of the members here. It's already modified in both muffler & port. Just what I was looking for. I had to mix a new ratio mix of gas, he recommended 32:1 as I usually only shoot with 50:1. Now firing this up is totally different from anything that I've fired up before. Now I know why they put decompression buttons on the bigger saws. WOW! Took it down to my log pile of mulberry. I made 3 cuts. All I can say is WOW! Impressive. It made quick work of the wood. It chewing and spitting as quick as I could feed it. Totally different than anything I've ever used before. The only negative that I can see is the weight. But I knew it be heavy. But was pretty balanced with the 20" bar, which suprised me. It will definitely work in my aresonal.
Very nice saw! I'm sure you will love it! 32:1 seems like a pretty rich mixture wonder if it will foul plugs ?
If it's a port-modified saw, the compression level is likely quite a bit higher than stock. Also oil mixtures heavier than 50:1 are often recommended for modified saws due to the higher stresses on the engine internals and higher heat levels present due to the increased compression. 20" bar on a 660? I bet your 460 is faster with that bar . . Stick a 32"+ on that 660 and let's see what that sunnuvabeech was born to do....
I learn something new everyday about modified saws! Thanks MM, its one of the great things about this forum.
The 32 bar will be the next item I need to get, but 25 is longest I got now. It was just easier to put the 20" on it to see how it was. As strong as it is I'm sure it will take the 32 or 36 and not miss a beat. No, I never got the 460 from the pawnshop, but I think I will go ahead and pump up the 362.
Me to I have had this craving to tear apart saws, rip mufflers off and Dremel anything that is orange or white
And good syn oil does not foul if your tuned right. Many on AS run oil at 32:1 and one famous chip recommends 32:1. BelRay brand particularly.
The 660 is a beast. With that saw in your arsenal, the 362 will feel a bit slow. So a port job may be just what the Dr ordered And every builder recommends at least 40:1, with 32:1 being the norm. The greater pressures on the bearings, cyl, rings, demand more oil be present. A very large detailed thread on a saw that ran 50:1 is what brought many to up there oil levels. But almost every builder tells the buyer they recommend a certain mixture and/or oil. Clem. He is a Chimp. Not a Chip.
Chimp? Hmmmm it did not change that time not sure what I typed to cause the dang autocorrect to write chip?? But yea what Dex said.
Fuel economy! Is that a joke!! My muffler modded 650 sucks fuel down and it holds like 23 something ounces!
About as good as my 496 cubic inch Big Block Chevy. I didn't buy it for gas mileage, I bought for those large trees that I encounter periodically on CL, that most others wont touch. I only made three cuts, so I couldn't tell you how much gas I used.
Well I was gonna add a pic but my phone and the forums are not playing nice here and each time I choose a oic it just returns to the page, with nothing done??
Just a suggestion ... ( I like spending other peoples bucks . ) put a 28" ES Lite bar and an 8 pin sprocket on that puppy . Should put a big grin on your face ,and it"ll balance out very nicely .
All this talk of saws makes me want to get out and cut. I'm a seasonal worker and this is my busy season. No time other than an occasional hour here or there for a couple months.
