Been doing some thinking here lately, after the MM on the 290. I'd like to start looking at doing something to my 362. But I've been seeing some difference of opinions on this mod to this saw. I know its been done several times but...

The muffler is different to the 361 and doesn't take to the muffler mod as well? Something about it pretty empty inside? A cat muffler?

Stratos engine is difficult to tune due to having to tune while under load?

I know it wont be no 460, but would a ported and MM be the way to go or just a MM? I mean its a decent saw in stock form, but I'd like to squeak a bit more out of it if possible.

The only thing that I can address here is that Strato engines have to be tuned under load . .....
Nothing to do with the engine being a strato design , it has a limiter coil . It'll cut out at a preset rpm and sound like it's 4 cycling . So you have to listen for the 2 cycling under load . I tune my saws that way anyway so it's no big deal to do , just different . Don't let it keep you from trying it .

X2.. I would not hesitate to do a Muff mod. The 362 is choked up pretty bad inside that can.

If you have it ported, you kill 2 birds with one stone. Gets a Muff mod and port. Then that 362 will come alive. It still won't be a 460, but it will surprise you :)

Yea, talked to Terry abit today about that. Just trying to see what my options are. I know that I definitely want the muffler mod, but at new as it is, I'd think that a ported job would be worthwhile too...Since my next Stihl will be here hopefully by next weekend or shortly after.

660, I'll probably stick the 25" bar on it. Then later on get a long bar for it.

Yep, I try to keep them looking good after using them. Want them to last.

Yes, I can't wait to see how it responds to the port job & mm. Hopefully in a couple weeks. But it depends on how his situation goes. Family first and I've got other saws to play with....

Man you would hate to see my saws!! They may get the clutch cover scrapped out when I change chains every 2x. Get all that oilly gunky sawdust out of there.!!

I do watch the air filters though.
