Got done with work a littler earlier today, looked a truck over for my daughter that she was looking to buy then went and had supper after the misses got done with work then headed out to do some cutting. The tree line the boss and I worked on a while ago had bunch of dead standing in it as well I got the okay from the boss the other day to cut down. running out of dry wood for this year so I been cutting standing dead elm to go right in the OWB. And for all you elm haters, don't know what your complaining about. One hit with the isocore, split it clean in 2 Only cut up about 1/2 a load for tonight. Will keep cutting the next few days now that the mud has dryed up enough I can make it out there. Also have about 10 poplar trees the boss and I cut down to delimb, cut and bring home. 3 smaller ones there. Not sure what the one is, but will be coming home with me as well.
That's for sure, I have the 10 poplar trees on this tree line, plus 4 more to cut down next to the one driveway at work. That plus the few basswoods I have to cut and split I will have a ton on SS wood for next year. Got the big elm I cut down in the one photo, then not 50 yards from that is a bigger elm to cut down plus a few smaller ones in the tree line should get me through the rest of this spring. Talking low 70s from Sunday into mid next week! Got to get this tree line all cleaned up before spring feild work starts.
No Elm hatred here. I love a good standing dead Elm. Most of it is ready to burn and real nice wood. GOOD FIND!!!
I like elm, but I had 24 inch round has so many twists and turns a 27 ton splitter just stalled. Noodle upon noodle. Great burning stuff compared to some for sure.
That is true, I have had some elm that the iso core has just bounced off of and not even cracked and somewhere it splits clean in one hit. Most of the standing elm that I cut is smaller in diameter and it just goes right in the outdoor boiler I never even bother to split it. I didn't need to split this I was just curious how it would split and when it splitso nice I Couldn't pass up the opportunity to rile up some of the elm haters
