After 28 years the electric line to the pool pump has rusted out. It started a couple of times and blew out the 15 amp fuse. Husband thinks he can run new conduit now and bury it later, in the interest of saving time. The old conduit is under a wood stack and patio tiles. He could run it through the shrubbery for now. The other option is to have a pool company do it. We probably will need to replace the pump too, but we have a spare. Any thoughts?
use direct bury COPPER line and forget about it for another 30+ years. Then Liquid tight to the motor and use the correct water tight connectors to keep water out. The pic you posted is definitely a No no.
He's been to the electric supply store, what he wanted is only for sale in 500 ft spools. There's something else, rubber something, that he can buy 150 feet of. He bought a water tight fitting, and will bring it home tonight to see if it fits the spare pump. So yay, he's up for the project. He has replaced the pump a couple times in the past. I got several free off of Craigslist about 10 years ago, used but still good, from a business.
Houston we have water circulation! Purging the air out of the lines now. The new used pump is nice and quiet, too.
Nice! Hmmmmm.....maybe it’s my screen, but is that bulk “extension cord” type cable? What ironpony was referring to looks like standard rectangular/flat Romex but a dark grey color....
You can NOT run sheathed cable inside of a conduit. NoNo. What Eric posted is direct bury, what you used is extension cord. You can not bury it or run it in conduit. Hopefully it is only going to the disconnect??? about 6 feet away??
It is above ground, run from the breaker box in the garage, behind the bushes, out to the pool pump, probably 100 feet. I have no plans to bury it. It's not a final solution. I understand romex is the preferred permanent wiring, but that will involve moving wood stacks and prying up patio tiles, so it will need to happen after the pool is closed. No way I'm doing without the pool in 95° temps!
If you use plastic conduit you have to bury it 18 inches. Metal conduit can be buried at like 8 inches but I don't remember the exact depth.
I had to laugh reading the line is buried under your wood stacks. I know, not funny, but it is.....from a distance .
