Tapped yesterday. Sap is running like an artesian well. Looks like a great week ahead for collecting sap.
I tapped yesterday as well. First year for me, but the weather looked pretty good for a run this week. We'll see.
Running errands today I notice some covered pails hanging on the sides of trees. 'tis the season, I guess. Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Only gonna put out half from what was done last year and got around 6 gallons of sap with another 25 lines put out today. Kids are coming out Saturday and we'll get the stove a brewing for sure! These are them. Tuff Store Clear Shoe Box | The Home Depot Canada
A shoe box?!?! not bad for a dollar each. I finished most of my taps about 60 yesterday. I hate cleaning all my stuff, ibc tote barrels boiling pan etc. Wich I'll probably do this afternoon.
They work great Boom and if one cracks just throw it away.Plus way easy too see from the bike. Yeah cleaning isn't one of my favourite things to do. Heading out now to grab whats in em.
I am guessing we will begin tapping this weekend. Perfect weather coming, looks like. There is about half dozen of us that combine our sap and burn one or two days. Usually get a few gallons a year.
Sounds likes good stuff Aje1 Bottom fell out here right now minus 6c going to minus 17c but warming up after sunday. Got about 11 gallons which will get us brewing tomorrow.
Sweet! Today is looking like day here as well. I was wishing I had done it last weekend, cause we probably missed a couple pretty good sap running days this week. My neighbor with the saw mill - Paul - has a hobby sized wood fired evaporator for sale that I was considering, cause I still haven’t gotten around to building the homemade one I was planning. May have to make a move on that this weekend as well.
Does he want very much for it Shawn? Supposed to be in the plus range from here on out as the forecast says? Finished 20.5 gals last year but burned a lot of holidays from work plus what the beer store made. Will be happy with 10gal this year.
My brother and his son are making syrup this weekend. My brother got too close to the fiskars! The dogs were having fun!
I haven’t heard back from him yet. Maybe he’s afraid I’m going to ask him about cutting some more logs next - lol. ....And wouldn’t ya know it, no sooner did I write that, he got back to me. I’m going to take a look at it tomorrow. Sounds like a very reasonable price. Only got 12 taps in today. I’ll probably do around 25 total. Quad sure came in handy! Don’t know how I got along without one of those for so long.
Sounds like a good neighbor for sure. Emma had enough pretty quick with the visiting Boxer that has a Hate on for safety cones. Did get the sap done out in the garage but will finish it tomorrow on the house stove.
Thinking of being able to see how much is in them is a great idea. I could see it as huge time saver.
