Finally got to splitting these maple blocks on Saturday. They split like red oak. So clean, straight and easy. Splitter wedge went in about an inch, and they popped open. I wish there was more. And it smelled slightly of vanilla, like white oak.
I was thinking that too when I saw the add. The only leaves on the ground were maple. I will have to get some up close pics of the splits. I know particular species can have differences. I have had both light and dark colored ash, and ash that was extremely stringy, and alot that splits like a dream.
