I'm making some big leaps with this once-seeming impossible build.......I'll do a full thread detailing the entire project once I get it closer to finished. So far, I've got the pistons and cylinders ready to go, the case, crank, rod bearings and rotating assy ready,to go, NOS piston rings, new crank bearings, new crank seals, NOS air filter, and a carb rebuild kit in the works......now I have to do some body work. First off, which one of you guys can do some TIG welding on my magnesium parts? Nothing major, just some very basic repairs.....

Second, does anyone have any parts for these saws that they'd either sell me or at least donate for a spell? I need to make a mold to re-cast a bar cover for my saw. It's the only major part that is missing. And if anyone has an original carburetor they'd part with (or if you know of anyone who does have the parts), please let me know.....

Good luck! Sounds like you are having a good time:bug:
I have never seen a pb-1, but I don't actively scrounge eBay or the likes though. But I'll ad it to my search list!

Post pics or description of the needed part that needs to be welded. Was it exposed to oil?

yes the parts were exposed to oil, but I'll make sure they're media blasted and as clean as possible before any welding attempt....

Cast magnesium is porous, no matter how clean it is there will still be inclusions in the weld due to it being porous. It will bubble fizz and pop.
Depending the part and how structural it needs to be and how hard the part is to find or replace, should depend on skill the welder as well.
Some castings weld really well others don't.
If you can't find anybody let me know, I'll look at it. If I can't do it("properly" anybody can melt it together), I know somebody who has oodles of experience with that stuff.
I don't weld every day anymore my skills are waining otherwise I'd say send it here.

These parts are nearly impossible to find. The areas needing repair aren't too crucial, I'd REALLY like to find someone with casting experience that could make me some replicas....

Have you checked into the diffrent types of jbweld i used it on a cracked block for my truck and it held for another 90,000 miles before the frame rusted out. The motor was still running when i scrapped her out

I read more than one may realize. ;)Short term I have a pretty good memory. I knew that was the reason for your name.

Take some pics so I can see what you need done. I never charge for what I do. I just like seeing the saw when it is complete.

If you need some pics of my work I can post a few.

There's a Crack in the back of the gas tank, part of the front handle mount is broke off, a small chip put of the top cover and a chunk out of the bottom.

The handle mount is just a matter of building up layers of magnesium, I'll shape it to fit when I get it back from you.

I'll media blast all areas that need repair, and get them as clean as possible for you.

I'll get some pics this evening.

I would prefer to do all the shaping myself. That way if more welding is needed I can take care of it right then and there. I just need to have all the parts that fit together so I know that they are welded together correctly. Blasting all the parts is good and really helps a lot.
