Scorcher today! Still 83 degrees outside at 5PM. But you know what they say... Lucky for me, when the sun is shining too much, I can go play in the woods where its a few degrees cooler. :saw: :D

I spotted this dead ash just off my main trail a couple days ago. Looked like an easy grab, so I went after that first. Staged it next to the trail for pickup later. There's a pretty nice 8' stick from it that I kept for lumber too.

A little further down the trail is the 8 red maple windfall. Still had some gas left in the 261, so I cut up some of the tops that had fallen across the trail. Altogether I think it will be pretty close to a cord.

It was in the 60s here and no cutting, so I am jealous of the saw work but not the weather.

Was so hot here, real feel of 100. So I go out and split three wheelbarrow loads full. I can go in the heat, but put it under 20 and I'm out. Nice work Shawn!!

You are not that far away from here, yet we are like being in a refrigerator. 83 at 5pm! I think it was in the 60's here today. Has been cool for several days. Tomorrow is also going to be cool, but high winds. Crazy weather. My new AC came, but is still in the box on my patio.

I'll hand it to you, I stay out of the woods at those temps.

Me too. It hit 92 yesterday and we were at the lake in the boat right away.

I always tell myself that my wood hoarding stops after memorial day, and doesn't begin until after labor day. There's exceptions, but I keep it minimal during those times.

If you'll get out weather today, vs what was yesterday, it's going to be much nicer for doing anything outside that doesn't involve being in the water.

90s yesterday, not even 70 today. Nice cool breeze too.

I've got lawn to mow, basswood to stack, mulch to spread.

That's it right there - gotta do it when I find the time. I don't get very much hoarding done during standard time on account of the shorter days. That's usually when I go into woodworking mode and get into more inside projects. Plus my woods is more accessible this time of year - these 2 spots stay pretty swampy most of the year.

Hauled everything in today. The maple got stacked in the log pile and I finished sawing up the ash.

    image.jpg image.jpg

I made some 3.5x stock from the saw log. That turned out to be some pretty cool stuff - the tree was only about 11" DBH, but it was over 90 years old. So the growth rings are extremely tight.

Nicely done, Shawn. To me, at first glance ash grain looks very similar to oak. I bet ifn you'd slap some red oak stain on that, common folk wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Excellent Shawn. I suppose there was no charge for the PI?
