    Hi Folks,

Harbor Freight is currently selling their 7 ton splitter for $280 (regularly $350). I ave a 25% coupon which would make the cost $210. The deal ends on 12/31.

I'd like your thoughts as to whether I should pull the trigger. I currently hand split all of my wood, and have never used a splitter . But I'm looking ahead to when my body says "You ain't splittin'' no more".

    Thanks and Happy Holidays.

It may not split everything but sounds like a great deal! Keep us posted!

At the very least it would save you from splitting the majority of your rounds. You would still be swinging at the tough and the large stuff tho.

$210? Go get it! Heck, you'll be putting it to work in no time.

I think they are the same. Made by Central Machinery, I believe I read somewhere that the unit is a 2-speed unit, so I am guessing that it is a 5-ton splitter at the higher speed, and 7 ton at the lower.

    For $210? I'd buy it!

You won't regret it. I have seen those little electric splitters with some big rounds on them. There is a YouTube video where someone has about a 25"-30" round. I was pretty straight grain wood, but still went right through it.

Now I want one for my basement, to make kindling. ;) For $210, it's well worth it.

Pm HDRock about his! He really likes it and if I'm not mistaken he said it was two speed as well. My old 4 ton electric did just about everything I threw at it and I wouldn't hesitate to buy electric again.

By everything I threw at it I mean big rounds as Dex said. It did everything but the knottiest stuff I had and then even some of that. Our electric splitter did all of our wood and all of my buddies wood for 5 years before I went gas. The only draw back was the extension cord! We loved that little splitter.

Great for indoor use as well.. Very quiet and the motor only runs when splitting.. Cheap to run another bonus..

Update: I picked up the splitter today from Harbor Freight. I may not use it for a while - need to scrounge some wood first - but when I do I will post some pix. Thanks everyone for your input!

Thanks HD Rock. After watching the videos and reading other threads, I believe that the HF splitter I purchased is the 5 ton, and that it only has one speed. I went to the HF website and it seems they no longer offer the 7 ton.
Anyways I was able to use it last weekend for a little while and was pretty happy with it. It split all but the gnarly oak, which I don't mind taking a sledge and wedge to.
Wasn't able to take any pix :-( but will the next time I am splitting.

Yeah I was going to come back and post something about that here, But forgot.
Apparently they no longer sell the 7 ton,
A lot of people have 5 tons and split all their wood with it,
IMO, much better than doing it all by hand
