I went to my friend's Husqvarna store today and it just followed me home.

It actually stowed away on the back of the ute.

Ok seriously, a while ago I was doing a tree removal for my farther and my old 031 AV died while limbing up. This has left me with a big gap from my 335XPT arborist saw to my 365. I have a job coming up that will require climbing and chunking down the trunk, I am going to need a saw larger than 12" to get it done. I have been thinking of getting the 550XP since the day my 031 AV passed away.

Last week a Husqvarna catalog arrived in the mail, Husqvarna Australia currently has a promotion going $150 minimum trade in dead or alive.

So I go it to Andre's shop to get my first autotune chainsaw today, I take the 550 down of the shelf and have a feel for balance and weight. Andre walked up as I am playing with the saw and offers to knock $250 of the retail price. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I had brought a trade in.

Sure is a pretty little thing! It's going to be a shame to drag it up a gumtree attached to a lanyard and scratch her all up.

Yes but they are substantially dearer down here to begin with. You guys in the US get better prices everyday. Nonetheless I am still very happy with my purchase.

Great saw score! That should pair well with the current line up too.

I stumbled onto the down under version of Husqvarna's website recently. You aren't kidding about being 'dearer'! :emptywallet: I saw the trade in deal and was a little miffed that they don't do that over here. Jonsered used to have a drag or bag trade in deal every year ($100), I think that's gone now.

I have been very pleased with my 550. I did have to take it in to get the firmware updated, but other than that, no issues. I did a mild muff job and added a spike from the 562, which takes just a wee bit of modding to mount. Mine is well above 85db after the muff mod (noticed the sticker, we don't have those over here that I've seen). Runs like a stabbed rat though! :saw: :dex:

Hey, it is a working saw. You get your share of scratches don't you? It is those body slams you want to avoid.

    Nice score .
I've had a few of them since the beginning. The only issues I've had with them was the first one I had would stumble a bit from idle sometimes, I just blipped the throttle a bit and it was no problem for me :).
The 550 will eat a 346 oe or xp up, get's better fuel economy, has great flippy caps, captured bar nuts, and the see through fuel gauge/indicator, what's not to like.

It runs unbelievably gooder for a 50cc saw.

The day I brought it home I took it out the back and noodled 5 or 6 big rounds that I had, and I was quite impressed with how it handled it but I did not do any bucking because I did not have any lengths left to process.

So today I went over to one of my friends property where there was a stack of lengths that he had cut a couple of months ago and a branch that had fallen of a yellow box eucalyptus tree.

I started by limbing and then bucking the yellow box branch. It was a good test because the branch was caught up in another tree so I did a lot of work above chest height, it was a great test of the handling and ergonomics. I was very impressed with how light and nimble it is to use.

The next job was to start bucking the lengths in to 12" blocks, the lengths varied in diameter from 4" to 20" and once again I was impressed with its power and handling.

After stopping for a refuel I gave it to another friend to try out, and he really likes it too.

I placed the logs and he cut, so the saw ran non stop until we needed a break then we swapped and I cut until it ran out of gas. Then she was gassed up and after some lunch we ran another tank of fuel trough her.

I am very happy with it.
