I had a order for 60 4x4x10' posts almost got finished today had some good logs only 1 had a dry rot spot in middle last log for the job is on the mill nice diameter locust I have 9 more to do might be 1 more log to finish up JB
Nice locust JB. Dad used to get 4x4x8 locust cut at an old guy's place that had the big ol round blade mill. I don't think anyone has even heard of portable bandmill's back then.
How is your new ripsaw/ edger working out? Locust looks good. I see you still have a little snow left to.
Yes still some snow piles melting now turning to mud piles edger is great one of my better tools (toys) it saves a lot of time and gives me a lot more recovery in lumber How is the sharpener working out?? if you are bored I could send you 20 or 30 to sharpen frozen locust is brutal on blades and the bark is so rough it hides the frozen dirt and stones it was almost 70 here today tonite it is going down in 30's but no rain or snow this weekend I am hoping for a good day sawing on sunday I have a 1000 bd ft order for random width locust decking !! JB
I am sure it is a big difference sawing with a carbide circle mill I know how fast my edger cuts with its carbide blades a lot of my cutting was on frozen logs it was hard on the blades JB
Sharper is going well. Been to busy to take on any more jobs. Recent job title change and family have been keeping me busy. All have been healthy and good. That's been a plus. Recently found a honey hole for firewood and some odd logs. Cherry, Locust, Sassafras,Ash, Poplar, Walnut, Maple.
All good here understand being too busy I am still fighting the after effects of that damm covid virus I had in december mostly really bad joint pain and fatigue doctor says they have no answer when it will go away so it slows me down some but this time of year I always get crazy busy in saw shop stay well JB
I've been seeing the price of locust posts (in Lancaster Farming) has gone crazy in the past 5 years or so. Do you do a per post or base it off the bd/ft?
All my locust is by board foot , price is grade depending posts are @ 2.00 bdft #1 select decking is 3.55 bdft it varies on log cost also, those 4x4 had to be nice that customer is very picky on quality they were 26.60 each JB
