Hauled a load home from the wood lot. What you can't see in this picture is that there's a big hump behind my truck, and ahead of the axle of the trailer. The trailer tongue and whole front undercarriage is literally about a half inch above that 4 wheeler sized hump. I've always wanted to knock that hump down, as it makes things interesting hauling wood out. I've never driven a real trailer down this far. I've just used the ATV and the little 10cubic ft yard trailer. That works ok, as the tongue is short. But if it's slick or there's a ton of snow, that 2 ft tall lump messages a challenging Hill climb sometimes. I put the truck in 4 low and engaged the rear e-locker. In addition to that hump that the trailer had to get past, there is a pretty good hill that the truck is parked on. With a loaded trailer, I thought it might present a struggle. It didn't. The truck didn't even spin tires at all. Ash, elm, and the longer pieces in the middle are ironwood that I'll need to cut. There wasn't much room between the fenders and the tires. I'll get this stacked in the wood shed in the next couple of days. The splitter will allow me to get the rounds I have here all split and put in the wood shed too, just a different bay. As it will need longer to dry.
We'll see. It's all rain now, and a lot of it here, and it's relatively warm now. It won't get cold enough to snow until Saturday and there's no precipitation expected then. Now Sunday/ Monday they predict a mix.
If I use splits like I did to extend the sides, I can get 2/3 of a cord in it. Now my buddy was given a heavier duty 4x8 with sides a good foot taller, bigger wider tires, and it's quite a bit heavier duty overall than this one. It doesn't have a ramp tailgate though, but it came with aluminum ramps for loading the ATV or tractor. It also has recessed and protected lights that won't attract errant splits like this one does. It also has a solid wood floor which will work better so I don't deposit bark and chips around my lawn like the metal mesh grate floor this one has does. The wider tires will prevent ruts in the yard better too. So likely I'll be getting that other trailer.
