So I happen to be driving when the local farmers market program came on the radio.
The very first call was a guy selling firewood. Ash, to be specific. So I quickly I pulled out my phone and typed his number in. Gave him a quick call just see what he wanted as he didn't say anything about cost.
He said he wanted $150 per chord, or $100 for a level pickup full. Also that he is in Lake Preston SD, about 2 1/2 hours south of me.

My thoughts, as I have never bought or sold firewood before, was too much money and too far away. What do you guys think?

I think it’s a great price. But not worth the time and effort to get it. Too much fuel and wear and tear on the vehicle to get it. If you didn’t have other options, maybe.

I agree on the price being decent but 5 hours of travel not to good.

$150 for a cord of ash is cheap. $225-250 the going rate around here for mixed hardwood. I wouldnt drive that far though.

Seems cheap enough. I operate WAY to inefficiently to think about selling wood, especially at that price.

Are Ash and LodgePole Pine comparable? LP Pine is $225 split................ If they are comparable or Ash better I'd be a frequent customer. Sorry we don't have hardwoods out here to compare price.

Ash would be better if truly dry enough as far a BTU's.

Not a bad price, since it'll be ready to burn in the fall with our climate if she is split.

Good price, too far IMO...but I'm not used to driving an hour or two to get to everything like maybe y'all do?
I suppose if you had a 1 ton and a big trailer maybe you could make the trip worth it...1/2 to 1 cord wouldn't do it though...IMO.

Around here that would cost $300.00 and up.Too far unless it was a grapple load.

There's a chart under the resources tab, on here that had drying times, chord weight, and BTU'S. I look at it at least a couple times a month to know where different species of wood stand.

    150$ is a fair price.
    If i wasn't getting 150 i wouldn't sell it.
