Anybody ever use lilac in the smoker? I've got a fair bit, and after giving grandpa some for his fireplace, I was thinking of trying this out on a piece of salmon.

There is no scientific backing to my opinion but my first impression was that it would be rather strong but thats only based on the beautiful but somewhat over powering smell of the flowers. I look forward to hearing what others say as we have quite a bit of it around here and some of the more ancient bushes have a bit of girth to their trunks.

Have you done any research on the interweb? I've never heard of that being used for smoking, as was mentioned trees that bear nuts or fruit are generally used for the task.

Lilacs have a nice strong aroma, but I don't think that would translate to a nice flavor. Kinda like using your Grandmas perfume as bbq sauce! But, who knows? You try it first!

I did a bit of reading, seems that those who have tried it had my thought that it might work for fish.. Not much on the way of results, though. Guess I will have to be the guinea pig. Stay tuned. :)

Usually the "smoked popcorn" I have had, was due to over-nuking in the popcorn nuker.
