Pardon my ignorance, but being new to this site, what does one usually do when a like is received? Do you just let it make you feel good or do you thank the person that liked your post or what??

Alerts, what are they? Do you respond to them also?

Just making sure I am not being rude or disrespectful.

If it's a "like" to something important, I will offer thanks or engage in some form....it's not mandatory to do anything tho- personal preference.
Alerts just let you know what's going on....do what you will with any given alert.

Good post JWinIndiana. Good question and also a welcome to you.

I look at "Likes" as a compliment and sometimes common courtesy. I give them to people mostly because I like the post they made but it might be liking for different reasons. I also make certain that I like when people thank me for some reason or another. As for responding to the like, I do not see a reason to do so.

I look at the alerts every day when I get on and usually there are from 80-100 or more every day. What I look for most when viewing them is any quotes that someone has made of one of my posts and I try to go to that right away. But most of the alerts will be of the likes you have.

If you care to look at how many posts someone has, of course you can see it in their avatar along with the number of likes they've received. Or you can go to "Members" to see who has the most posts. No real need to look often but sometimes people get curious.

I have posted some pictures here Is anyone a wood turner here?

I took typing in HS back in the day. Used to be able to type 280 words per minute with three mistakes. Can't come close to that now though!

    Welcome JWinIndiana..

I see no reason to thank people for a like.. it would take all day:).. if you want a bunch of likes just follow Chvymn99 advice and post pictures..
in fact I turned off notification of likes because as Dennis aka backwoods said there can be lots.. especially if you post pics of wood, trees, splitters saws, animals mention beer etc etc

    great to meet ya:handshake:

Likes also reduce the number of posts in a thread. If someone posts a comment, hitting like reduces the number of members doing the...

The award is a built into fuction of the forum software. They are just to motivate new users, no practical use.

Wait....I can collect bunches of likes for mentioning the above mentioned stuff? SWEET! Here goes: Stihl, Husqvarna, Oak, Black Locust, splitter, Fiskars axe, wood stove, Outdoor wood boiler, vertical splitting (#Backwoods Savage!), pellets, pallets (shout out to Pete!), construction projects that have to do with cutting, storing, stacking or burning wood, and last but most definitely not least- BEER. Let the likes rain down from the heavens! :salute:

I did not take typing in HS but when I wen to college I had to take it...or take a test. I enrolled because I did not think I could pass the test. They gave me a sheet to type and said to type until they told me to stop. I just typed the last word when the lady came in. I told her I lucked out as I just finished. Her jaw popped open. It seems I was not expected to finish and she'd never had anyone completely finish it. No mistakes. Needless to say, I passed. Now I type slowly and make many mistakes. The backspace button on the keyboard is about worn out from using it to go back and correct mistakes.

Use "control" and the arrow keys, you'll move real quick from start of word to start of word....or point the mouse where a correction needs made.
