Lignetics results: FINAL RESULTS Temp Average - 240-320 (on door thermometer) Ash Volume - 14 ounces Ash Weight - 2.30 ounces Ash Percentage - 0.38% Fines In Bag - less than 1/8 cup (was next to nothing) Pellet Length Avg. - 1/4" - 3/4" see pic Bag Weight - 40.4 lbs. (2.85 lbs. left in hopper) Notes: Bought from Ace Hardware $225 a ton ($220 after my $5 coupon) DUSTY!!! High ash volume (fluffy and lots) Indoor storage at Ace. Overall...I bought this ton on a whim. I was driving by Ace one weekend and they were advertising these Ligs at $225 a ton so I pulled the trigger since they are very close to my house. First impression was the dust. I never complain about dusty pellets but these were the dustiest pellets I've seen in a long time. There also seemed to be a lot of fly ash too. These do burn well but purely based on ash volume, I probably wouldn't buy these again unless these were all I could get. I guess I must be somewhat of a "pellet snob" now..... Disclaimer: as with everything.......YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY
I gotta tell ya.....I am loving these reviews. I hope to see more on the future. And maybe they will motivate JTakeman to get going on his
I am very intrigued at these tests myself. I always do my temperature tests, but ash I never measured. How do calculate the ash? Or the better question, is how do you retrieve all of the ash? Do you clean the entire stove, heat exchanger, and exhaust vent? Or just the stove body? Just the ash pan? I wanna start doing some, but want to make sure that are results are somewhat similar.
I have a paint brush and I sweep everything into the ash pan. I try and get as much as possible (nothing from the vent though) but there is always some that I can't really get up in the exchanger but I do collect as much as possible. My temp results are a wide range. Since it's a but warm out yet I need to adjust the feed rate so it doesn't get so hot in the house but I've been trying to keep it as consistent as possible to try and keep things equal. I think Jay typically burns two bags each for his reviews but I didn't. Ash calculation: Bag weight x 16 (need to put total bag weight into ounces) 16 ounces = 1 lb. You must deduct any leftover/unburnt pellets in the hopper off total bag weight. Because of my hopper design, some pellets don't get used up. Weigh the amount of total ash collected Divide ash weight (in ounces) by total bag weight (in ounces) So.... 40 x 16 = 640 (ounces total bag weight) assuming ash weighs 2.0 ounces 2.0 divided by 640 = .003125 move decimal point over two........ .31%
I think Jay is waiting until it gets a bit colder. I'm just having a little fun with this right now until the "real" tester gets into it.
Still busy with the day job and getting the homestead ready for the winta, Might get my feet wet day after turkey day? I'm enjoying the chit out of steve's work. Well bud, Don't sell yourself short! I am impressed with your effort. And think your doing a fine job at it. Your checking the important stuff that the gang wants to see. Well done Steve! Fixed it for ya! I live in the east and see lots of stuff! So if there is something you would like done. Post it in the request thread and one of us might try to get to them.
Just busting.....I am in the same boat with work and house stuff. I love when people take the time to post reviews like yours and his
Picked up a few bags of Liggies to try. Darkest pellets I have ever seen. Must be using coal dust as a binder!
They look like the PTL's I tested way back in 09'. Looks like Ligies still has the batch issues. The cream colored batch had nice heat and little ash. While these dark batches seemed to be full of ash. Still had nice heat though.
Welcome to the show Pell It , let us know how them bad boys burn for you . Just a suggestion ,but you might want to put your stove brand in your signature helps if you got any ?? location helps too
