In another thread about New Year's plans, I am seeing a common theme and am wondering??? What is your traditional New Year's food#1? Why are so many referring to the New Year meal being pork n kraut#2?
Didn’t know that tradition. We don’t have any special meal here in that regard, but I will say of last night’s offerings at the little party we had, my guts are reminding me what my eyes told me not to eat....
X2 ^^^ I was told growing up it was tradition to have it on New Year's day for luck. Not sure there's any evidence it helps, but... Since I love me some pork n kraut, it's a tradition I'm happy to carry on.
Around here it's Chinese food. You better order it in the morning if you want to eat it that night! Places are crazy busy with take out.
The worst part, the food ends up so mass produced that its absolute crap. For some reason unknown to me, my wife loves the Kowloon in Saugus. I think it sucks, but what do I know? So we had to get.food from them this year, and it was the worst I've ever had. I hope I can work on starting a new tradition with her for NYE food.
A week late but all this Pork and Sauerkraut talk got me to thinking. I love me some sausage and kraut so I looked up a recipe and made a baked pork chop and sauerkraut dish tonight. Recipe had me adding potatoes to the bottom of the baking dish and some green apple, onion and brown sugar to the kraut mixture. Turned out great
I always add brown sugar, but don't often have apples around, but can definitely understand adding them.
