Last winter I went down to the edge of my woods, in an area I hadn't been in, in probably 40 years. I found a large blowover red oak that had it's upper limbs caught in a nearby tree. As a result it was at 45 degrees, and I didn't see any way I could harvest it and not get killed. So I left it alone. I went back to that area recently, and saw that the tree had fallen on it's own, but...

It was still shoulder high off the ground, because...
Yep it landed smack on top of a fence post when it fell out of that tree.

So a month ago, I went down and cut off all the limbs on the opposite side of the fence from the tree.

So it was shoulder-height off the ground, and stuck on a steel fence post. Two tons of wood 5 feet off the ground. The 15 year old son of my good friends was helping me, and taking pictures.

I chained it to the Farmall, and he got on the tractor and kept the chain tight while I cut through the monster 4 feet from the fence post. It fell exactly where I wanted it to, but it's still 10 inches off of a log I put under it so I could cut the rounds off without cutting into the ground. More to come.

I went down this afternoon, cut some rounds and brought 'em back to the house.
There are probably 10 more bucket loads this size. These are from midway up the trunk.

A fine bit of work there.

    What saw you running?

I'm surprised at how many members are lacking snow.
    :loco:

How much left to cut up?

Thanks! I've got a Stihl MS 251 that I bought new a year ago.

Most of it. There is a LOT of wood in that trunk.

Nice Farmall - which model? What’s the loader? I was thinking a Farmhand from the side pic, but the front pic and dump cylinder changed my mind.

Thanks, it's a '42 Farmall H. I put a new engine in it in '96. Loader is a DuAl. It's got a Schwartz wide front end on it. I use it for bush-hogging and hauling firewood up from the woods.
