I burned La Crete few years ago.. good softwood.. green supreme should Never be in same sentence as Matra and EZBlaze Softies.lol....Middle road Box store staple here at HD..
La Crete was always my favorite pellet.But I'm liking the Matra's.I'm getting less ash and lots of heat.They are both great pellets.
Green Supremes shouldn't even be in the same sentence as NEWPS or MWP's - about the same ash but doesn't burn as warm (and those two don't burn nearly as warm as the Le Cretes or other higher-end pellets.
My negatives with the Matras were small pellets, a fair amount of fines and dusty , also my stove was running a little on the dirty side even though I clean it every day. I did just replace the door gasket and the glass seems to be cleaner so may give them another try. How are the Cubex burning this year?
My EasyBlaze softies this year have more fines than i would like. My harman fines box dropped quite a bit of sawdust just taking the cover off. I could sift the pellets pre hopper but hell with the extra time and work. If i didnt have a solid harman and strong auger i would prob re- think that.
The new door gasket made a huge difference. Now more air is being drawn up through the burn pot instead of the leaky door . The glass is staying nice and clean and the interior is more on the gray side instead of black.
Changed mine couple yrs ago and never made any difference. P61A. i did notice that my glass has a braided gasket behind it just like the door.[ original]. wondering if it is the same thickness as the door gasket... P61A.
My guess ! it would be thinner and flat . The door gasket is usually larger and round to make a good seal but I have a different design on the QuadraFire.
Got the LaCrete's (3 pallets) for this season on last year's spring buy and am hooked. Price here is just under $400 for the 1.2 ton pallet. Low fines, smell great and put out the heat. Much better than the previous batches of Somersets I had been buying. As the supply chain is so screwed up, already planning for this spring's early buy.
UT OH...I swapped a couple of bags of LeCretes for Matras and am burning them now. Can't believe how little ash from the Matras in my Castille.! I got to replace the door gasket but apples to apples, a lot less soot with these, too. Matras' pellets are smaller and burn better in my pot. Took some temp readings and not much difference between the LeCretes and Matras. If we're lucky, you might get this year's spring buying pellets close to last year's pricing. Supply chain has broken down (food will be the next issue) and fuel prices should be close to $6/gal by fall. Local dealer here, still has Matras in stock for $319/ton (they are stored inside) and I will call to see what they are thinking for spring buy pricing in April. Delivery is now much cheaper than picking them up with my Ram so I just might take the "bird in the hand", grab four tons, throw them in the garage and be done with 2022-23 season. In this busted economy, to me, you wait, you lose... and I heat primarily with pellets with electric baseboard as "backup" (and that is economic suicide to run electric) as my only alternative. At this stage of the game, take what you can get as the savings won't be more than a $60 swing. (Your mileage might vary.....)
My supplier is telling me the shipping cost via train to the NE will push the price on the 1.2 Ton pallet to over $460. They told me they are not going to stock them like in years past. Make you plans accordingly and good luck sourcing pellets. It is going to be a mighty cold winter in Europe this season and it will more than interesting to all of us on how that plays out with cost, supply and demand going forward. It's a whole new game, mes amis.....
I hear you. I’ve started using a more economical pellet, clean fire pacific softwood , $ 6 a bag . Yes they don’t burn quite as clean but I’ve gotten use to a little extra cleaning and the heat is great. Actually what brought me to them is I ended up with a hernia and could only pick up 20lbs max and found these which come in a 20 or 40 so decided to stick with them because of cost .
