I'm burning a mix of maple and ash, at the moment. I have about half of an 8 foot rack of oak that was started year,

No real allotment, per se. I just keep burning until it's warm enough to not burn.

True I know the gang here sets aside what they usually burn in a year and then make that multiply sometimes for the next 3 or so. Looking forward to that.

Wax crayon? Been thinking about marking my stacks the same way. Just when I think I can keep it all straight in my head my brain reminds me it’s full of holes. Ever try a sharpie?

Sharpies work. Found that they fade over time and need to be renewed. Not a big deal.

Santa gave me the logging crayons.

Info stamped into a piece of aluminum cut from a beer can is legible and lasts a good long time. Also makes you look like you take things a little too far, but I'm OK with that.

Wire it to the posts at the end of the stack or nail it to a piece

Red sharpie on a white milk jug is only good for a couple of weeks at best.
I made a bunch of labels for the garden with that combo.
Well that was a waste of time and effort.

Soup or cat food can lids. Stamp them with steel stamps, or even just a small chisel.

I do it exactly like you Mike, except I use a black sharpie. When I put a new stack into the rotation each year and mark the month and date like you, I go over the date on the older stacks to keep them easy to read.

It takes just a quick re-mark, now and then.

While out admiring your wood, Mark it up!

I've never marked but usually have no problem remembering when wood has been stacked.

You're a better man than me Dennis, I used to be able to do that as well. But now that I'm working on the 4 year plan, I'm beginning to confuse the older stacks in terms on "whose on first"
