Considering going back to a wood stove, heated for 20+ yrs with a older #8 Jotul.
Installed a Heatilator PS 50 last yr in our basement where the wood stove was.
1000 sq ft small raised ranch. Question is which of these stoves will give a
longer burn time?, spoke with a dealer and he said the f45 has been very
impresive with some customers. Hmmm, just looking for a honest opinion.
I am an ole boiler HVAC guy that believes in cast iron but the f45 has me thinking.
Also has a blower kit and is about 3 to 4 hundred less then the f400.
I still have my #8 but was a little wood pig and just not worth re installing.
Stay warm, and keep your stick on the ice. Current temp -10 :hair:

I have the Castine in a fireplace opening. I was looking at the F45. Similar BTU's, F45 has a longer burn time. North/south loading with "cigar burn" appeals to me.

Here is a thread I have going.

I had the f400 castine, was great but burn length of time was too short.

The big door glass really radiates the heat. I'm curious about the firebrick lining in the 45. I'd like to try one.

Do you think the F45 or F400 has a big enough firebox to get through a full night burn? I run an Alderlea T5 at 2.1 cu. ft. box, (similar steel firebox w/ cast wrapping) and it does a solid 8 hrs, but if we want to sleep in on cold mornings, we have to reload and climb back in bed or let the oil furnace kick on. Sometimes I wish it had a slightly bigger box.

I've got the f55 and I searched specifically for a simple stove (no ash pan, welded steel, north south loader, cheap firebrick not fireboard, affordable, clean lines and of course the ability to kick out some btu's ). The f45 like the f55 delivers on all of the above. Im pretty sure you will like it. All that said the my f55 has done a good job heating 2500 square feet in the recent blistering cold stretch we have had in Michigan.
