Woke up to 7 degrees. Only 70 in the stove room. It's getting warm now though.
    First fire of the day.

I better not let my wife see these pictures. I dont know how you guys keep your front loading stoves so clean. It seems like I always have crap everywhere.

You've got a beautiful hearth. That looks like a great place to sit for awhile today. Do you ever need any kind of fan to help circulate heat from the alcove?

Thanks, we sit in front of it every evening, much better than TV. If the night time temps are around 15 or below, I usually leave the blower on medium. When night time temps are above 25 the blower stays off, but I'll take an 8" fan and put it on high blowing under the stove in the morning and get a lot of useful heat out of the coals before having to reload.

It seemed like the perfect day to fire up the old Franklin and enjoy an open fire as well.

Here is a picture I took a couple years ago. Last night the fire was even more wild. Looked like the pits of Hell itself. Great heat too.

I'm with you, my ash lip and the floor where I lay my rake is full of ash.

My floor is tile, so I wash that constantly. The ash lip which is below the front door has ash on it, although I never open this front door, so the gasket must not be fully tight.

15 Feb. 2015, Sunday evening, it is 5F outside and I am burning down the coals bed to get ready for the overnight reload. Burning-down-coals.jpg

This was a long exposure photo and unfortunately it did not really show what is going on; the bottom of the firebox is the coals burning down orange but the entire top is purple gas flames.

The ash lip gets covered with this stove. We're always cleaning it. My son was drying his size 14 shoes on the hearth in front of the stove tonight too. Hopefully it didn't stain the slate.

Yep, that's our typical setting these days. When the wife is around, we gotta show a little flame though sometimes, cause she doesn't like to see a "black box." They eat through more wood when I'm not home, just so they can keep up a little flame show.

Woodstock Ideal Steel Hybrid. That's what Briank, BDF, and myself have in our pictures. Same stove different colors.

This is a full load of White Pine splits burning in the Wood Gun. Unfortunately the flames have crept up through them to the top. But that's okay. They will throw heat just fine.
