Thought I would start a new post from the best wood I cut from a giant red oak (26") at the base. All courtesy of hurricane Isaisis (northwest ct).

This is largest tree I have ever cut up... probably over one cord from it. Sorry to see her fall.

    Happy thanksgiving everyone.

Hi Dave, hello to a fellow Nutmeg state hoarder. Im in North Haven. Thats a biggun for sure. Did you harvest the entire tree? Here's a handy link to determining a trees firewood yield.

During Isaisis it was hard to get a tree company for non-emergency jobs. The homeowner (2 houses down from me) had his landscaper cut it up. He had only one saw a Echo CS-400. [ I was really impressed with how hard he pushed that saw and its performance]. When he got to about 16" oak he was really struggling. I walked over with a Echo CS-590 and an old Jonsered 630 both with 24 inch bars. I ended up cutting and taking everything that was over 16 inches in diameter. Doing a little math it added up to over 128 cubic feet in wood thats where I get the cord estimate from.

That’s some nice clean straight wood. I love getting red oak logs that size.

I like when they are that size and solid in the center.
