It's not a smoking hot deal but not a ripoff either. Offer 150 to 175 and it'll be a good deal if he takes it.

not a bad deal for the saw but that looks more like a 16" bar not a 20". I 16" would actual be better suited for that saw anyways

Didn't open link bit there's no way that's a 20" bar, maybe total length from front to back?

I see 034s go for $2-250 pretty routine-like. I would go that route.

029S is nearly identical to the it current but soon to be discontinued MS290.

Discontinue the 290 its a better saw than the 291, which has the quick chain adjuster and the choked up muffler!!

That's kind of surprising that the 290 will be discontinued, I agree it may be underpowered for the weight but they sell a ton of those saws. What's the replacement?

Soooo, from what I am hearing is it's an ok saw but not anything to write home about. My Brother in law is going to look at it tonight and said he got the guy down to $200 over the phone so he is taking 175 with him to see what he will do.

I looked up the specs and was kind of surprised there is only 1.4lbs difference between the 029 and the 460. How is the antivibe on the 029?

Marginal. It won't put your hands to sleep...but you won't walk away thinking "damm this is a smooth running saw" either.

Around here that saw would be gone in day for $300...ragged out 290's sell for more than that all the time...probably because that's the only 50+ CC saw that ever shows up on CL

Actually, many of the newer Stihls have free flowing mufflers compared to previous saws. The 291 is lighter and offers much improved ergonomics/anti-vibe compared to the 290. Not to mention all that Strato-charged clean running stuff.

And speaking of choked up mufflers, the stock muffler for a 290/310/390 is rediculous. I think you have first hand experience with that Clem. ;)

Under $200 for a clean 029 is a great deal really. Could sell it and make money when he's ready to upgrade.

AV on the 029/290 is mediocre like others have said. Your 460 feels smoother to me IMO.

I need to do something about the 650, that is ridiculous. Its like the size of one of those fat pencils!! Gonna cut that baffel tunnel out and the open the hole to the size of the deflector. Sorry for off topic.

Well he bought it for $200. I told him to check it over real good and to pull the muffler to check for scoring. I got told it's a Stihl you can't mess them up, if it was one of those Huskys like you have then maybe I would have to........ Anyhow he texted me and said he started it and it idled good so he bought it. Hope it's ok but it's not my problem, I seriously wonder why I try to help anyone out sometimes

I had a husky 372 that idled OK. It just was not perfect. It was sucking air at plug and scored bad with welded ring and Al transfer on cyl walls. I'd pull muff every time.

I completely agree that there is no way I would buy a used saw from someone I didn't trust without pulling the muffler. I tried to warn him hope he doesn't have problems.

I always pull the Muffler and check compression. I just picked up an 026 today, that I would have sold him for the same $200, and guaranteed it.

If they don't look like this, then I don't buy them
