So I found an old plumb axe a couple months ago and cleaned it up and put a new Handel on it. I enjoyed the process, pretty simple and not too time consuming. So at the in-laws farm I’m on the search, about 10 minutes I find

neither have any markings so I’m sure there’s not much monitory value.

the question is… is AAD real and is there any monetary value to vintage axe’s?

Friend of mine (is a pastor) has 58 axes in his office.

Clean examples of good quality American double-bit axes seem to make the most money. Along with vintage axes from Sweden and Norway (Wetterlings, Oyo). There is definitely a collector's market for vintage axes.

That hammer-axe you found will be nice and useful when you restore it.

Oh it's a real thing. I like a soak in vinegar for a day or two for the rust.

I’ve been looking for a double bit for awhile to hang on the wall, but no luck.

any ideas for a handle for the hammer-axe?

The simplest way is an ordinary hammer handle, like this:

There are a number of forums and FB groups that are axe specific if you do some googling. And it's a really real thing. I started out with just looking into the grandparents' sheds and then this happened...

I should add that you are lucky to be in North America and have access to the products of the House Handle Company. They supply a massive range of handles for all sorts of tools.

Final product. They cleaned up pretty good, work well too! I went out a split up a bucket of kindling, works a lot better for kindling than my x27 that I was using.

Nice collection I’m just looking for a double bit then I’m done:whistle:. Are the just wall hangers, or do you put them to work?

Some come off the wall far more often than others. Be surprised how quickly you can limb with an axe. Use them when I know the wood is easy splitting. Every once in awhile I'll actually fell a smaller tree. There is probably another couple up since that pic was taken.

Did you refinish them, or were they in good shape when you acquired them?

Pretty much all of them have been cleaned up, rehung. Some on handles I made myself. Still about a dozen or more sitting around that I haven't hung. Mostly found thru flea markets, antique stores, garage sales and auctions, a couple on ebay. Got in a habit of buying an axe in each state we visited on vacations. Had actually been thinking about downsizing because I hadn't been looking for new ones too much lately.
