A friend of mine bought a house and this insert came with it. Does anyone have any info on this insert? He is looking at burning wood to supplement his furnace heat. I discussed inserts with him but my knowledge is limited. I sent him links to Pacific Energy, Jotul and BK. I think he needs to stay with an insert verses a free standing stove.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Hmmm. No idea. Is it an epa tube insert?

So he's looking at replacing the existing one?

Quadrafire makes many great inserts, possibly more than any other stove company. There's Buck, and lopi too.

Yes, he is looking at replacing the current insert for a more efficient setup. I’ll check with the owner if it has tubes or not.
I’ve already told him to start hoarding firewood.

My friend has been looking at inserts since I have last posted. He thought about an Osburn, he stopped by a dealer and they quoted him between 12-15 thousand. That is to swap out the inserts and stonework. I am hoping it is also for a liner. Obviously he isn’t going to go for that.

He lives in the Appleton, Wisconsin area. If anyone knows of a reputable dealer/installer in the area please let me know.
    Thanks

Looks like an opel, if so, it's an excellent heater. The vents on the bottom may open. There may be a fan kit in there along with a mfg data plate.

15 grand? Wtf. Did it come with a new high efficiency furnace and a 5 year supply of seasoned oak?

For what it's worth, I have a Drolet 1800i and I like it. It is relatively inexpensive...

Dang I thought the same thing with that 5 figure quote. I would have sent that fella packing with a swift kick in the azz and hope he cleared the patio to his carseat.

On another note, this is one of those situations where a stone and mortar chimney has been done well but could he build the hearth out a bit further and get a stove or insert that has a rear exit exhaust? Looking like a tight squeeze too..

The lady of the house does not want a stove sticking out in the room. I tried that route already.

Agreed. There was a time I had a Harley parked in my living room and I would tell any females visiting to leave the toilet seat up when she is done. I’m married now and wouldn’t have it any other way. Great stories and memories of the other life though.
